i know everytime i checked for my parents for a place to stay, the windgate was always the most expensive. bad economy, and they refused to lower their prices= forclosure. if LU doesnt buy this land/ hotel, i will be very sad. we already have shown a willingness to do that with the annex, and this makes way more sense than that.

I'm sure JLFjr noticed there was a large hotel right beside campus before the bankruptcy news :D

Buy it and start a hotel management major.

When they originally built the Wingate, it was always said that the intention was that it would eventually be in LU's hands. That might have been the rumor mill, because I don't know if that made any sense from a business perspective, but I've always expected it to wind up as part of Liberty.

If only they could have gotten a restaurant for the adjacent site....
or, maybe not.

Rumor mill... it was built by the same folks who owned the Days Inn, and they weren't the type who thought of giving properties away to ministries. Having worked with the company in a couple of iterations, I didn't have much respect for their financial acumen.

I don't see how this can end up anywhere other than LU. It wouldn't be attractive to anyone else and would wind up eventually ending up in the same position.

It was nice for me as a pastor when taking students to CFAW and to be close to campus. However, as someone mentioned, the prices were nuts.

Lynchburg, VA - The Wingate by Wyndham Hotel off of Candler's Mountain Road has new owners.

During an auction ThursdayLiberty University bought the property for $9.2 million.

LU School Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. says Liberty will run it as a hotel but has not ruled out turning it into dorms in the future. Falwell also says the hotel performs well.

He hopes the school will recoup it investments soon.
