Next week will be the announcement that we are ready for a move up, nothing more. Stop hyping things up. If it happens I will be happy but there is no reason to expect anything but confirmation that we are ready to move up

Wow, you guys are angry people, all I said was next week Could be big for us. And if I want to get hyped over that, I will. Yes they will announce we are ready, and there are a lot of us on here that have been waiting on that. You have to make it public if you want to A.) get people talking about us on other boards B.) so that everybody knows we are a player in this too.

Not angry, just been around LU long enough not to get too excited. I am not saying it won't happen but I refuse to hype it up.

ODU has until June 30. Looking at the last paragraph of the article, it looks like we don't have a shot at C-USA.

In general, the conference is looking for growing schools in "significant and large" communities, he said. If ODU were to pass on C-USA, the conference could possibly turn to Middle Tennessee State, sources said.

Ah, you are forgetting LU Online. That would put us in every major city rather than just one. :D

Yeah, the proof is in their selection of La Tech, which is in Ruston, LA (very much a significant and growing community).

Thats true, Lynchburg had like 50,000 more people than ruston last census. I wonder about ruston's tv market, i will have to go back and see if it was part of that previous thread on markets..

La Tech is an established brand in FBS that draws relatively well.

I have been out of the loop for several days while in the jungle. But nothing I have seen has been surprising. Look back at the past month.or so in this thread.

We remain in the hunt for several leagues. I agree with NotAJerry that an announcement next year wouldn't be the end of the world. But I suspect we may not have to wait too much longer.

Things are not as chaotic now as they were a month ago.

Here's an interesting post ..... http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=568386&page=4
It's conceivable that the WAC was looking at "adding" eight affiliate FBS football members (JMU, ODU, Delaware, Charlotte, Liberty, Appy St, Ga Southern, Jacksonville St). Those eight wouldn't join the WAC in anything else, but consolidate in the CAA for other sports. After gaining FBS status, those FBS schools leave their WAC affiliation. Under NCAA rules, the CAA would then be an FBS conference. It is possible that CUSA cherry picked ODU and Charlotte out of this group to prevent such a plan from gaining traction.

Why would the WAC agree to this arrangement? Otherwise this makes sense.

Idaho & NM State are alone as football schools, but there remain plenty of non-football members (including Boise State & Hawaii if memory serves me correct) who would have to agree to such a plan.

What do you think about the future of the WAC? I'm thinking they're probably gone, but part of the reason Montana didn't move up a couple of years ago was Montana St. needing to get things up to snuff to come along with them. They appear a lot closer now. I'm leaning towards the WAC being a goner, but I do wonder if there are a few schools that could step in within the next few years if they pull off the temporary east coast idea.

Beyond those two conferences, the most idealistic would involve a reformed CAA as a full fledged FBS conference. That would involve a return to the CAA of East Carolina from Conference USA. Almost certainly, Marshall would be needed to make it happen. JMU’s presence gives the potential league a strong four but still way below the numbers needed. So bodies are needed. Charlotte and Appalachian State would be great anchors to add to this.

The wild card would be Liberty. Liberty recently hired Turner Gill, former head coach at both Buffalo and Kansas. A member of the Big South Conference, Liberty has let it be known their desire to move to the FBS level. What would probably hinder the birth of this league is the absence of major market presences with Liberty, JMU and Appalachian State.

I'm LOVING that idea: a truly regional FBS conference with close away gamess: that sounds like the best of both worlds! How many LU fans would travel to away games at the MAC, C-USA, or Sun Belt conferences?

i dont care who we are in a league with, as long as it says FBS. those three letters and 85 scholarships are the gateway to glory. we are in no position to be pick and choose a league. we take what we can get. and it this point its looking like it will certainly take some creativity.

Agree with the three of you. A regional FBS league would be better than the Big South. It would be the worst of the move up options though, and I cannot help but be disappointed if a CUSA or Sun Belt invite does not come.

Just when I took you off ignore....
How exactly would it be the worst option? IMO it is a great option. All conferences start out as regional, even Conf USA had its roots in The Great Mid West Conf.

I agree with Purple completely. Being in a league with JMU, ODU, Appy St and other regional teams would be awesome. Appy St. beat Michigan years ago and JMU beat VaTech recently. Everyone in the conference would be competitive, you get the ODU market and FSN in the same conference. I would much rather travel to Harrisonburg or Boone verse Lafayette or Jonesboro. Not to mention the facilities in this conference would be way better than those of the Sun Belt.
