Either last year or the year before the sports writer out there, I think his name is Radford, snidely commented that playing LU in football would never happen. I just thought his comments shortsighted, but this makes them a bit more true, based on our lack of movement... or the lack of interest in our program.

Move to FBS already paying off for ODU in recruiting
This time a year ago, Old Dominion had no verbal commitments from high school football players. When the Monarchs held their annual media day Monday at Foreman Field, 16 players already had said they will sign with ODU in February.

And if the ratings by a national recruiting service are accurate, ODU already has had by far its best recruiting class.

ODU coach Bobby Wilder said that’s a result of the school’s impending move to Conference USA and the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Just an interesting find. According to ESPN LU is tied for third amongst all FCS schools in verbal commits. I know this isn't "extremely significant", many different sites have different numbers, and most relevant teams in FCS aren't at the top, but just to be kept up with by ESPN to this degree only helps our case in moving up and getting seen or heard of nationally (by people in general, not speaking of FBS conferences hearing of us). This time last year I believe ESPN was only showing two for LU. ODU is in first by a landslide with 21.

A lot of kids probably dont finalize their decision until after the season because a lot of teams want to see how they do in postseason play.

Oh yeah, no doubt. I'm never very confident of any recruiting numbers prior to signing day. Seen plenty of people make crazy decisions when the time comes, just good to be getting covered more (although hardly) by ESPN.
