Actually, he may not have to. I don't know the specifics, but it sounds like they are going to try for an exception to the one year transfer rule based on "family needs". They are not that uncommon when a player transfers closer to home and there is an illness or other family problem.

The "family needs" plea is nonsense in this situation. His parents moved with him to Alabama. He has extended family around here, but if they allow this it will be a total sham.

The NCAA already IS a total sham.

Must be a Tech fan, huh? :D
Haha. Nope. I just can't stand the NCAA.

The local paper said that Sims was the top-ranked QB in the nation coming out of high school. Is this the football equivalent of UVa signing RALPH SAMPSON in '79?
:oldhag

If so, Rocco doesn't have a chance at UVa, unless he agrees to be backup.

Yeah that's a true statement - he was the #1 rated high school QB recruit that year (2010 maybe?). His Dad talked him into going there in the first place thinking he'd have a chance to showcase his talent nationally at the school, which would have been the case if he could have won the starting position. The only problem is that it's Alabama - they get top recruits every year. In my opinion, his Dad really screwed him over. He could have gone to one of the other schools that were closer to home and he would have been the starter outright from the get-go. If your goal is to get to the next level then having the opportunity to get the coaches undivided attention and the max amount of reps in practice from the start is key.

i don't care where he plays unless it's LU. but i don't think he should be given a hardship waiver. if he is really leaving to be closer to family, ( don't blame him ) then he should have transferred to ODU or hampton or norfolk state to be closer to home. then there would be no need for the waiver.

UVA is gonna be good for a while and he wasn't playing at alabama. again i don't blame him at all for transferring. you only have 4 years to play, need to make them count. most people don't transfer if they are starting.
