This was announced a while ago and All the Hokies around work are going nuts. Up until a minute ago, noone had a real clue but David Teel just posted this on Twitter:
“@DavidTeelatDP: Sources: #Hokies press conference is about a change in head men's basketball coach.”
Funny thing is that he and others have talked to Greenburg today and he says he is still there and touring campus with a recruit.
Interesting.

I've wondered for a few years why they keep him around. If you're consistently not in the tournament every year, you're not doing your job. Even if you beat Duke sometimes.

It's official. And Greenburg WAS hosting a recruit on campus. Doubt he can sign him now. Weaver cited the exodus of assistant coaches over the years and with only one on staff now, it made more since to fire SG then fill out a staff.

Rooster, Dennis Carter on WSET even mentioned GM as a candidate; if McKay ever wanted a head coaching job in the ACC, I would think this would be the easiest one for him to get.

A little late on that one. He doesn't have any more sons with eligibility

A little early in the morning for me to laugh so hard. I don't see McKay in the mix anywhere either. They need a big name if they are going to make a splash in the ACC.

I don't think Jim Weaver is worried about making a splash hire... He wants someone that's a 'team' player, doesn't have a ego and gets along well with Beamer and the rest of athletic staff...

I think the usuals will turn it down, GM, Shaka, Mooney, etc... And if Dell Curry is a serious candidate they deserve all the losses they get... Example Clyde Drexler didn't work at his alma mater Houston...
Then it will fall to some mid major or high major assistant that's a nice guy... VT is a tougher job now that Pitt and Cuse join the ACC!

Actually, Seth has a year of eligibility left, and could play immediatly as a grad student. I'm sure VT has a master's program or 2 not available at Duke. Animal husbandry?

I doubt Dell would take this on just to coach Seth for one year, but he may be tired of being associated with the worst organization in the NBA and have an urge to help out his alma mater.

I will be sure to check their message boards to see if any of Seth's friends linger 5 years from now.

Weaver said it had nothing to do with losses. Imagine that, a coach fired for being a total dweeb.

GM would be a great fit. That guy is annoying, but sure can coach. His teams are always fundamentally sound and always come to play. If he would consider - they would be stupid not to hire him.

Totally agree, and although he has had some success at Wichita State, you have to think that VT is a step up for purple face, even without the fact that he has local roots.

He would be stupid to go there.

VT is not getting any "name" coach ie Shaka, GM, etc. Someone like McKay is probably their ceiling.
