Bottom line - the second week in May every camera from every major media outlet will be on campus.
End of story. If these kids don't understand that - should have went to Gardner-Webb. Our dreams here are much bigger and getting a potential president to speak at a graduation is a big, big deal, regardless of his spiritual beliefs.

And as far as voting for him...you have three options -

1. Vote for him
2. Vote for Obama
3. Vote for someone else (a vote for Obama)

Is he a big gov. Republican? Unfortunately yes. But is he better than Obama? Light years. The choice is clear.

Your options are horse dung and you know it.

Logic would tell you that if you are a democrat

1. Vote for Obama
2. Vote for Romney
3. Vote someone else (a vote for Romney)

so 3 seems to be the best choice!!! :D

DICKENS. While I disagree that NOT voting for Obama is a vote for Romney, I will say no one ever accused logic of being logical :D Defeating an incumbent is very difficult.when you are the challenger your margin of error is much smaller.

Light years?? please, stop kidding yourself...

I don't want to make this into another political thread, the other one is long enough, but that is simply not true.

Also the last time I checked a vote for someone else is a vote for, well, someone else.

I have to believe that we have one of the more whiny student bodies in the country. It makes our students look like the kind of idiot students at more liberal universities that protest someone speaking at there school because they don't agree with gay marriage or abortions.

Convo and commencement do not always have to be a church service. I think it's great for people whether conservative, liberal, christian, LDS, muslim, etc...to hear people who don't have the exact same beliefs ans them. When I graduated Ben Stein was my speaker and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm hearing JLFjr may be reconsidering Romney.

...I'm told he began rethinking it after he read Purple Haize thought it was a great choice

I think a lot of people are confusing the term "commencement speaker" with "university chancellor". One is a representative of the school and sets the tone for the direction the school is headed. The other comes to the school for an hour and gives a congratulatory speech about starting your professional life and throws in a joke about compounding interest.

Student's mad

Sorry if posted already. Are the students really that upset or is this just someone taking a SELECTED survey for a particular result?

most of the people that they picked comments from were online students. the on campus reaction is mixed, and it honestly doesn't seem to be a big deal to the majority of us.

every year the reaction is mixed.

I can understand people not being happy with the choice, but it is what Liberty has always done. I am kind of disappointed with it, but also understand the choice. I am sure he will give a good speech.

Yeah, honestly even the Ron Paul supporters that I know on campus aren't even upset about it. I really don't know anyone on campus period who is upset about it.

Great to see our students embarrassing us on the CNN site. Kids, understand there are thousands of Christians out there that have no idea what Liberty is...have never even heard of us. As I stated earlier this is like having football play against bama on ESPN on a Saturday night. How can people not
see that?

Not a good analogy. BAMA would walk all over Gill & co.

OFF TOPIC: It was fun to be at the spring game today, but my enthusiasm will be tempered until we win the games we should and win the games that count.

Even if you looked at the comments on the post on Liberty's facebook before it was removed, Id venture that most of the people that commented arent campus students. I commented on someone's facebook about the article and I said that if they talked to students on campus, Id venture that they wouldnt get as much anger about it as the article alleges

Jerry Jr. is just like his dad, unfortunately, when it comes to pursuing political power. What an embarrassment to biblical Christianity.

I'm knew my influence was still strong. It's why his dad hired me. People would say Jerry, what are you against? And instead of giving a long drawn out answer for the 1000th time he would just point at me!

Yep he certainly is scum. How could we have such a heathen in our ranks? What an absolutely horrible role model. How could any of our graduates learn about putting their faith and words into action from a guy like this? We should have gotten Tebow!

BYD- what is wrong with having someone of great moral character speak ? I disagree with your contention that Life isn't about morality. Without Morals, without faith, what is there? This man has a strong Faith, even if it is Theologically divergent to our own. However, his faith and actions are firmly rooted in a positive morality and the actions of his personal life bare this out.
Disagreeing with him and the choice for political grounds is one thing. But disagreeing with him because of moral grounds is off base.

Just "my" two cents worth, and that's all it's worth.

My nephew graduates this year!!!! I am very proud of him!!!! I am also pleased to have the "mostly conservative" Presidential candidate deliver his commencement speech. Will Shannon Bream be on campus to cover it? Hope so!

While I have problems with Mitts religious doctrine, and some of his politics, it's an honor for the University to have the front runner for the presidency at the ceremony. Don't forget it was first Doc that brought Protestants, Jews, Catholics and Mormons together politically, to keep our nation moving in the right direction.
Falwell's spiritual breakthrough, however, was accompanied by a political innovation. Instead of enlisting just fundamentalists and other conservative Protestants, Falwell opened the Moral Majority up to everyone: Jews, Catholics and Mormons — in short, the very people (and faiths) that fundamentalists had been separating themselves from for generations. That was Falwell's greatest political discovery: he understood that fundamentalists, orthodox Jews, conservative Catholics and Mormons had so much in common politically that they could overlook their theological differences.

That was a funny quote! As a supporter I would not even say he is severely conservative! I would say he is 'moderately conservative'. IMO, he IS 'severely conservative' in his personal life.
