Im just sayin that its understandable to expect the interview when you did. Like he said, Coach Gill has been super busy the last few weeks so finding time to sit down for an interview has no doubt been scarce.

Sounds like he is playing this the way you ought to play it. He doesnt want to sound like he is favoring any one person at any position. the next couple weeks certainly will shed a lot of light on who is going to be in the lead going into the summer. He's gonna be getting his first real look at the guys he has to work with so Im not surprised that he has many answers in that regard BYD

Nice write up from an outside source...

Barfknecht: Liberty proving a solid fit for Gill, ex-Huskers
What would you do if your boss told you to seek employment elsewhere, then wrote you a $6 million check to do so?

That's the situation Turner Gill faced Nov. 27, when Kansas decided two years of football under the former Nebraska star quarterback and assistant coach was enough, buying out the last three years of his contract.

At age 49 and with a bulging bank account, Gill was in a position to take time off from coaching. Or change careers. Or try about anything this deeply religious man wanted to consider.

"Our family can still glorify Christ whether I'm in coaching or out of coaching," Gill said in a recent interview.

"My wife and I kept the doors wide open in our prayers. From coaching to simply spending more time with each other, all those options were discussed and prayed about."

Seventeen days after his firing at Kansas, as Gill sees it, God kept him in football.

Gill was hired as coach at Liberty University, a 40-year-old school in Lynchburg, Va. The school's creator was Jerry Falwell, a fundamentalist pastor perhaps best known as co-founder of the Moral Majority, a lobbying group for evangelical Christians.

For Gill's critics who say he was overwhelmed at a power conference school — and his 5-19 record at Kansas provides heavy ammunition in that debate — this looks like a tidier fit.

Liberty plays in a 19,200-seat stadium and competes in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA. And the school's strong religious affiliation is something Gill takes comfort in.

But Gill isn't buying talk that he has stepped down the football ladder.

"I see every job I've had as the best fit at the time," he said. "And I think the same thing is true here as for what God has called us to do."

Gill had best not treat this as a cushy landing spot, because Liberty University has stars in its eyes.

Jerry Falwell Jr., who took over as school president upon his father's death in 2007, wants to move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision. In speeches, he says some day he wants an athletic department with the cache of Alabama or Southern California.

Falwell's stated goal: What BYU is athletically to Mormons and Notre Dame is to Catholics, he wants Liberty to be to evangelical Christians.

Bring it on, Gill says with passion in his voice.

"This is exciting," he said. "Absolutely I have faith that this will happen. I thank God that he called me to be a part of this."

Gill's only connection to Liberty before being hired was having an assistant coach, Robert Wimberly, who used to work there before being hired on Gill's staff at the University at Buffalo.

Wimberly, who followed Gill from Buffalo to Kansas, encouraged him to look at the Liberty job when it opened. Danny Rocco, who won four Big South Conference titles in six years and had four Top 25 finishes, left Liberty for the job at Richmond in a higher-level FCS league.

"I didn't know many details," Gill said. "I barely knew where it was."

The eventual middle-man in the deal, Gill said, was former Baylor coach Grant Teaff, now executive director of the American Football Coaches Association.

Now, Gill is running spring practice with the help of some names familiar to Nebraskans — offensive coordinator Dennis Wagner (former NU assistant), quarterbacks coach Joe Dailey (former NU player) and special teams coordinator Mike Minter (former NU player).

Gill said he has come to terms with his dismissal at Kansas, though he admits "surprise" at being fired after only two seasons.

"I'm not going to get into all the details of it," he said. "The Lord stated that our work was done in Lawrence, Kansas, as a football coach. That's all. It doesn't make myself any less of a person or less of a coach."

New Kansas coach Charlie Weis has booted about 15 players from Gill's old roster.

"Any coach who comes in anywhere has a right to do what he needs to do to get the right people in his program," Gill said, matter of factly. "I just pray that things go well for all those involved."

It's always good to catch up with Gill. He's a spiritual tank-filler. It was especially good to hear his renewed enthusiasm.

But this next step in his career is worth watching closely.

Is Liberty getting the coach who won a title in a good league (Mid-American Conference) at arguably the worst football school in the country (Buffalo)? Or is it getting the man whose Kansas teams were painfully disorganized and routed regularly?

God only knows.

Didn't know there were different levels in FCS.Now if he had said more competitive then I could go along with it.
