You had to figure it was coming...he spent much of the last couple years in Coach Layer's doghouse and with the players coming in, his scholarship was probably doomed if he stayed here

Is Gardner Webb or Wright State going to have anyone on their roster? The seemed to have a lot of transfers

So. how many PMs have you gotten in the last couple of hours?

If we are going to speculate based on reduced PT toward the end of the season, there is an obvious possibility, but there are also reasons to question why that would happen.

With Chene leaving we will have a full allottment of players on scholarship provided we get a NLI from Marshall next month.

Dennis never saw the floor. Butler is too small to play the 4 or 5, and we are set at the 3 spot he would function better at, he will be a real solid pickup for someone. Dawson really got into Holtmann's doghouse somehow during the injury time, not a shock if he left with one year left.
I'm not buying Stef Johnson, led the team in minutes, too key a player to leave with one year left.

At this point, I am more concerned about Holtmann. His real close friend Groce got hired tonight by Illinois. You've got to wonder if he will leave to be on his staff in Champaign if offered. Rumor was Holtmann turned down the top assistant job at a very visible mid-major last summer, and that wasn't his friend and teammate from his college days offering him the job.

The next two weeks will be interesting.....

Talk about people you should have kept in touch with. I worked camps at Taylor with Jeff Groce, hung out at the Final Gour when he was at NC State and numerous other connections. Good for him!

youre right jinxy...its a numbers game and with Baird having been in Coach Layer's doghouse as well, and with so many guys coming in/coming back, you have to think his days were numbered as well

That would seem to be logical if in fact someone else is leaving. He barely saw the floor the second half of the season, apparently because Layer did not feel he was committed to playing defense. He has 3 years of eligibility, but has already redshirted, so unless he is granted a 6th year he would lose a year in the transfer process (assuming he goes to another D1 program). Hard to judge exactly what we would be losing, as I really don't think he was back to 100% physically following his ACL surgery plus he hadn't really played in 2 years.

Gielo and Smith have similar size and skill sets and it appears that both are more highly regarded by the coach.

I'm just glad that every year it seems half the team leaves. Sounds like the future is bright for us.

Before you attack me, yes I know these guys were benchwarmers. And Chene for some reason can't shoot the ball.

this time its not half the team though, its two guys who were the primary renters in coach's doghouse...

If it's true about Baird, this is 4 players transfering out in the past 2 years, and only one of them saw significant action or seemed to figure in future plans. I can live with that, and it's pretty much business as usual in college basketball these days.

I have no idea how good or bad Baird is, and I know that HS ratings can often be wrong, but I seriously doubt he's "stuck" behind anybody. This year he's been trying to make up for being out of basketball for 2 entire years. We all knew he wasn't going to do anything this year, although you'd have expected him to start coming on at the end of the year. If he's as skilled as we thought he was coming out of high school he could easily get into the rotation this year. But I guess that's if he's as skilled as he was advertised.

It has been a problem that is for sure but this year is not nearly as bad as it has been. You are always going to have 1 or 2 guys who either don't get their scholarships renewed or decide to try their luck elsewhere. Its the nature of the beast, especially at this level
