Andrew Rowsey
5'10" 150lbs Point Guard
Lexington (VA) Rockbridge County High School

There’s an old saying, “if your 6’6 or taller, you have to prove you can’t play, but if your under 6’0 you have to prove you can play” and 5’11 Junior PG Andrew Rowsey of Rockbridge High School in Lexington, VA has proved time and time again that he can play and play he can! Not enough emphasis in recruiting is placed on winning. Do you win and make your team better relative to the overall talent level? Under achievers usually stay that way at the next level, the same can be said for those that maximize their talent to make their team better. Winning guys don’t change and Andrew Rowsey is a flat out winner. I remember a quote from a good friend and college coach, “would you rather coach this kid every game or coach against this kid twice a year.” In Rowsey’s case, he is a kid I would love to coach every game. Rowsey is the ultimate gym rat and since he lives miles from the VMI campus, a lot of days and nights are spent working on his game and playing pickup basketball with the VMI players during the off season.

Rockbridge County junior Andrew Rowsey set a single-game boys basketball scoring record with 47 points

The BWSL point guard told the Hoop Group that he had a scholarship offer from Radford. He is hoping to impress a few more schools this summer, and by the looks of it, he is well on his way.

I saw this kid play last night in the state semifinals. He put on the single best individual performance I have EVER seen, on any level. He was amazing. He scored 34 points. I don't know what the rest of his final stats were, but they pale in comparison of the performance he put on. You simply had to be there to see it. He was double teamed the entire night, and could barely even touch the ball, let alone get an open look. And he still scored 34 points. Simply amazing.

I don't know if we're recruiting him or not, but we need to. I know Radford has offered a scholly, and I'm sure VMI will or has. I think he's an under the radar kid right now, but I wouldn't be shocked if he blew up next year and got high D1 offers.

A lot of people will look at him and say he's too small, but I would kill to have this kid on my team.

Here's a write-up of the game last night:

"I've been fortunate enough to be a part of nine state tournaments, and the performance that Andrew Rowsey put on in the second half has to rank up there at the very top," said Brunswick coach Bryant Stith, who won two Group AA titles as a player.

A friend and fellow broadcaster called a game against Rockbridge a few weeks ago and he agreed that Rowsey is the real deal. Im surprised he hasnt gotten a few more serious looks than he has.

It's Rockbridge. Not a basketball Mecca. Hell get his looks at AAU this summer

Would it be nice if we offered him? Yes it would...do we NEED to offer him? (like we NEEDED to offer the guys from Gretna) That remains to be seen

Just got some scoop from former Flamer on that lives in Lexington.... word is Rowsey has interest from RADORD, VMI, OHIO, Northeastern, and will start for Team Loaded AAU... he is very similiar to Tyler Lewis that is headed for NC State...

I just don't see how any other program in the Big South could beat out VMI for him... especially playing in that offense. we will see though.

Unless a Big South team were headed to a better league in the not too distant future.

Commited to Asheville.
Rockbridge County basketball star Andrew Rowsey, who set a VHSL single-season scoring record for Group AA players in 2011-12, has given an oral commitment to play at UNC Asheville.

Rowsey said Thursday that he picked UNC Asheville - which won the Big South Conference championship last winter - over offers from High Point and Richmond.

Sounds like a numbers game for us. We didnt really lose anybody outside of graduation other than Chene as far as guards go and we have only have Tavares graduating. I will say that I share jc's sentiment that he is somebody I would want on my team though
