Among the 300 prospects that took part in the inaugural Proving Ground Combine in Phoenix last week, very few were faster than Josh Marriner. Scout.com caught up with him at the event to discuss where he stands with schools who have him on radar already.

The USMC Proving Ground National Combine filled the turf of Chase Field with talent from all across the nation today as America’s top underclassmen and a number of select seniors vied for an opportunity to get recognized as elite talent. Our own representatives included Western Branch running back Josh Marriner, Hickory lineman Christian Fahey and King’s Fork quarterback Matt Hommell.
Marriner hit the ground running today and finished as one of the six finalists for the combine’s Fastest Man Competition. He’s a solidly built 5-10 190 and his performance at the combine was certainly turning heads. 247 Sports was on hand to review the combine and rate today’s Top 10 performers. Josh was one of their ten.
247 Sports writer Justin Hopkins said of Marriner, “He could play on defense or offense but today worked out with the running backs. Marriner should see a big increase in his recruitment during the Spring evaluation period.”
Josh was pleased with his performance at the combine.
“I learned a lot,” said Josh as he finished the morning’s competition. “No matter what, you have to keep your head up and finish strong. The coaches have been telling me that I’m doing well. They tell me I’m quick and fast.”
The tone of the combine is much like the tone of Junior Rank’s camps at the regional level. They reinforce teamwork, character, work ethic and a positive outlook.
