The problem with putting troops on the border is the whole Posse Comitatis thing. Unless we invade a few miles into Mexico and set our forces into a buffer zone.
We need to do everything we can do to keep Iran from becoming the new Caliphate.
As for Somalia. I say we let Donald Trump buy and develop it. It really has beautiful coast lines!

Here's the deal, if we became a self-sufficient nation that produced everything we would ever need stateside then I would support bringing the troops we have stationed around the world home. The problem is, we don't have that luxury at the moment and history dictates that we probably never will. A truly self-sufficient nation is not possible, and because of that we have to have troops stationed abroad to protect our interests. I'd love to believe that if we leave everywhere in the Middle East and trot Obama out to issue one last apology to the Arab nations for disturbing their 'peace' that they might leave us alone and allow Israel exist. That having been said, I do think it might be time for us to get out of Afghanistan.

Ultimately, I am becoming more pessimistic about 2012 and the future as a whole too. I just don't think there are enough leaders willing to stand up and do what's right for the country. There is no morality or class in politics anymore though. The more we watch this spectacle the more I think everyone realizes that the system is broke - and in need of some major adjustments.

I noticed how you tied in Israel to that statement. It seems it wouldn't matter if they took a pledge to leave us alone, as long as they threatened Israel you still want us to be there. I know this is a crazy notion, but Israel is plenty capable of defending herself.

So it isnt really about our interests. It's about Israel's.

Also, nobody is advocating a one state economy. The ideal economy is to import goods at a cheaper price than could be made at home. Oil is a decent example of that.

Oil is an example of the "interests" I'm speaking of overseas, not just Israel. I guess we just disagree on the Israel issue. While I share your optimism in Israel's ability to defend herself, I remember the history of the Yom Kippur War where Israel won, only because of the support given to her by the U.S. If we had ignored that situation and let Israel "stand on her own" you might have a different outcome.

RM - I know that we likely have some intelligence assets in Iran and some para-military/spec. ops forces as well. What I'm trying to determine is whether you think they are here solely because we are there now. If that's what you believe then if we were to reverse that action, and return home, do you think they would do the same?

I know my memory is foggy after a few seasonals but I believe all three of these states wont be handing out delegates til April....

So, all three could potentially mean nothing for Santorum.

I would like to read more details, but that "theocracy, gay bashing, warmongering" is more than likely not the sole reason Santorum won tonight.

He doesn't instill confidence. That is one thing that is intangible for a leader. One of the reasons I like Mitt is because he believs America is inherently good and Americans are positive. Santorum seems to be laying on a guilt trip to people but just the opposite of Obama. As for his policies, he is all over the board so I can't really say one way or another.

The 109th Congress is considered by many to be the most corrupt in modern memory. Santorum was near the top of the list of bought and paid for corporate shills. Then there's the problem of him getting beaten by a larger percentage of the vote than any incumbent Senator in the modern era (18%). He's an awful person who is completely devoid of basic character traits like honesty and integrity. He's simply up for the highest bidder and he's got a nasty habit of doing things like stealing 80k+ in education from PA for his kids while knowingly and willingly violating state laws for that education. The group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) compiles reports on the shady dealings of each Congress. Here's the front page for their 2006 review http://www.citizensforethics.org/index. ... ss-report/. Despite the strong lean towards Republicans who were listed, the bottom of the page points out who had, as of that point, actually been followed up on with Federal investigations. The 2011 report has 7 of 19 being Democrats. They tend to call it like they see it.

Santorum is a politician available for the right price with a history of corruption. His endorsement from evangelical leaders is further proof that that term no longer holds any meaningful merit.
