This could come down to the wire as Auburn is waiting on 2-3 top receivers to make their choice. Good chance Darrin is down a little on their list and may have to wait out the others. Nice size and speed though - looks like a very good player that was drawing SEC interest late in the year.

Doesn't seem to be copying correctly but here is a link from a local paper near the end of the season. 1st team All-state in ALabama.

Etowah's Darrin Peterson earned a spot on the Class 5A ASWA All-State team.

When Sam McCorkle arrived at Etowah three years ago, he knew he had a special talent on his hands in Darrin Peterson.

Then just a sophomore, Peterson possessed a long frame and flashed big-play ability for the Blue Devils during the 2009 season, McCorkle’s first in Attalla.

“As a sophomore, he was a tall, gangly kid that could run and catch,” McCorkle recalled. “He made some big plays then. He had a 99-yard touchdown over at Southside.”

Fast forward to 2011, and the senior version of Peterson — at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and with 4.4 speed — was a consistently unstoppable force in Class 5A football. After tearing up opposing defenses all season, Peterson was chosen as a 5A first-team selection on the Alabama Sports Writers Association 2011 All-State football team, announced today. Peterson leads a contingent of 32 athletes — 16 first-teamers and 16 honorable mentions — from The Gadsden Times coverage area to earn recognition on the team.

Im in Huntsville, Alabama where recruit Michael McFadden goes to school, Westminster Christian Academy. Army has offered him and he is just waiting to see if Liberty offers before making a decision.

Coach Ski told me he had got a commitment from this kid a couple weeks ago. Him and Coach Gill were down here visiting him and a couple other players. He said he is the real deal!

Thanks for the heads up. I knew you were somewhere in Northern Alabama.

Anybody else at mildly surprised when a new commit is not from the Sunshine State? We've been loading up on Floridians.

Lots of "he" and "him" in this post. Can you clarify? Is the entire first paragraph about McFadden? And the entire 2nd paragraph about Peterson?

Ha, too bad it's not Darren and Adrian.

Oh sorry, first paragraph is on McFadden (who I think could play for us. A great motor, works hard. Nose for the ball). And the second is all about Peterson. Sorry for the confusion

There doesn't seem to be much info on this kid out there and he's not on Rivals at all. But he seems to be a stud. Any idea why?

The kids who get noticed are the kids who go to camps during the summer. Before this summer Sean Culkin was unheard of. After attending several camps he shot up to a 3/4 star and received over 15 offers. If a kid doesnt have the money to attend these camps he can go unnoticed. This Peterson kid probably lives in a smaller town with one high school. I can almost guarantee he didn't attend any type of recruitment camps last summer.

that is 100% correct. if you don't attend a bunch of camps and spend the dough rivals will just give you 2 stars if you get an offer from somebody. if you are fast, bench 185 a bunch of times, or jump high then camps are a great place to pick up some stars. i have seen a few 3-4 stars kids get beat all over the field by kids with less or no stars. i always thought the best way to judge kids at those camps would be to go full pads and play. make them read a play, and go do your job. don't get me wrong speed and strength are a major factor but if you don't know where to go or how to get there and what to do when you get there it doesn't really matter. but hey, what do i know

He reminds me of PK with a lot of his highlights. I mean if you get him in space, he can break a big play every time he touches the ball.

At wideout, Peterson is the standout. The 6-2, 190-pound Peterson visited Auburn over the weekend but chose ultimately to honor a soft commitment to Liberty. All four of the receivers in the class (including Dante’ Shells, a mid-year enrollee) are at least 6-2.
