I remeber a game about 8-10 years agot...we were either playing Western Carolina or VMI in football. LU lined up for a game winning FG...and it hit the upright. The crowd got real quiet...and at this moment, the number one fan yelled, "Oh, HEDOUBLEHOCKEYSTICKS" (he didnt say hockey sticks...he said the word) and it echoed across the stadium.

I remember another one...around the year 2001 the baseball team was playing in the Big South tournament in SC. The annoucer comes on and says he thinks he's going to die because he had a fever and bought a dollar store thermometer but dropped it in the hotel parking lot and he may have inhaled the mercury vapors. He's like, "This may be my last broadcast...i've been looking on the net about Mercury and it's effects...it's bad stuff".

How about the game in 2003 I think it was away men's basketball at Birmingham Southern. Their shot clock was broken...so they had a pa guy with a microphone count in increments of 5 until there was 10 seconds on the shot clock..then he'd start counting down from ten...it sounded like they were going to launch a rocket.

Way back when the Big South basketball tournament was at a single location. LU was hosting it...and during halftime of the games the cheerleaders were racing these radio controlled cars...one for each school. The LU girl spun out on the second lap of a three lap race...so she knew she couldnt win. So then all of a sudden she turns the car around and starts going in the wrong direction...the crowd was like, "what is she doing"...she then procedded to hit the Radford controlled car head-on and take it out of the race...the crowd loved it.

A long time ago...there was a contest and the winners were able to sit on a couch placed on top of the visitor's (at that time it was the home) locker room at the football stadium. That's fine. The only problem was we were playing VMI...and there cannon was on the ground right beneath the locker room where the couch people couldnt see it. VMI scored and lit their cannon...when it went off those three girla jumped about 10 feet in the air off the couch.

I caught one of those and nearly died in the process. I sold it for some extra money haha

Love these, Jim!

I'd have to go with the moment between when a 1st basket was about to go in and all of our players used to duck or run for cover and the moment when the tp was being launched and the opposing team had that confused look on their faces. It was priceless. We used to laugh until we'd cry some games in ole Libertyy Gym (aka Schilling) ...

Of course it wasn't funny when you couldn't find any paper later that night back in the dorms when you needed it for its intended purpose.

In 2005 Liberty was hosting a basketball tourney in the Vines near thanksgiving. I think Liberty played odu in the first game...and then William and Mary played UNC greensboro in the second game...well after the LU game, the concession stands closed. It was terrible...they finally opened one window so that the remaing fans could get soda...there was a really long line...and the tribe fans were starting to complain about not being able to get drinks...I was one of the only LU fans in the line b/c I stayed...so I yelled out...Why would you come to a Liberty basketball game and expect to be able to drink..Don't you know we're a dry campus...by dry we mean you can't drink anything AT ALL...I've got some premoistened cotton swabs out in my car to keep my mouth from chaffing...the entire line loved it.

And didnt Lynchburg Nissan give away about three cars in a five year period to contestants making a FG at halftime? We'd be missing fgs during the game...then a student would come out and hit a 40 yarder for a car.

I think it was 2003 and the mens bb were playing at Longwood. Liberty had just lost...and Edwards was wrapping up the stats waiting to talk to McKay. All of a sudden...this girl gets hurt playing pickup ball on the court...and Jerry just starts announcing it...he's like..."this girl just went down in front of me...there's blood...here comes Ritchie Mckay...he's trying to get the team's doctor...now he's comming over to me...then Edwards asks his first question...What did you think about that girl taking that tumble...Mckay didnt know how to respond...so he says...let's pray for her right now.

The funniest thing I saw when I was on the Mtn. was a soccer game. There was a scuffle on the field, And when they had the teams separated. Some how the number 1 fan Gary, ended up pushed down in the back of one of the Goals. He was entangled in the net for several minutes before being banned and having to sit up at the top of the hill behind the chain linked fence. He stayed and watched the rest of the game.

The Phantom Steal against Norfolk St and the Cover Up of the missing segment on the game film!

The side note on the FGstory is that one of those years Lynchburg Nissa didn't buy the insurance for the contest so he had to eat the whole cost of the car! OUCH!

2001: Travis Eisentrout steals the ball, has all other 9 guys on the court behind him and instead of going for the layup, he pulls up for a 3 and air balls it out of bounds.

Also, as I have said many times I was at that game cube fiasco. I was the guy who had made a giant game cube and wore it on my head. And it was apparently proto himself that came over to me to give me one and as I reached out he ran away and gave it to someone else.

At the amazing comeback vs VMI in 03 or 04 where we scored like 4 TDs in the 4th quarter. At the end of the game all 300 fans ran out onto the field, except there was a flag down and it took the refs like 10 minutes to get us off the field. And then when he announced that it was against VMI we all ran back out. Some guy I didn't know was so excited and was all up in a VMI lineman's face telling him what he thought of him. The VMI dude was at least twice his size and just pushed him and I swear that kid came off the ground. It was awesome.
