It appears that Charlie Weis is playing an unusual game with a kid who wants to talk with Coach Gill about his future ...
KU Student Newspaper wrote:Former quarterback to appeal University decision

After being notified that he would not be starting at Kansas next season, freshman quarterback Brock Berglund decided it was time to review his standing at Kansas.

The University decided otherwise.

Brock Berglund, shown here after being recruited by Turner Gill, is no longer with the team or on campus. The University has denied him permission to talk to other schools.

Berglund sent a letter to the University and notified the quarterbacks coach Ron Powlus that he would like to speak with other Division I coaches about his future at Kansas. He was hoping to speak with former Kansas coach Turner Gill, who recruited Berglund to Kansas in the first place.

“I just told coach Powlus that I would like to speak with some of those guys that counseled me through the high school recruiting process,” Berglund said. “Like coach Gill.”

Berglund hasn’t gotten that chance, because — to the Berglund family’s surprise — his request to speak with other college coaches was denied.

The response from Kansas contained another surprise.

The University also denied Berglund a request to transfer, a request he never made in the first place. In fact, Berglund’s father, Brett, said that the letter explicitly said his son did not request to transfer or change his status as a student athelete at Kansas.

PS - Last year's starter Jordan Webb was dismissed from the team by Weis at the same time as Berglund. But apparently Webb is planning on staying in school to graduate before possibly transferring somewhere for a final season. What a mess in Lawrence.

And he appears to be right in the thick of this mess.

The Berglund kid has to skip the 2011 season while attending to legal issues home in Colorado. But he clearly is getting jobbed by Weis & Powlus.

In unrelated news investigators have evidence to support the charge there has been gambling activities taking place at Rick's!

Weiss is a wiener schnitzel and wasn't Powlus supposed to win 2 Heisman trophies? Sad

As some perspective, Berglund was the #13 rated QB in the entire Class of 2010 who turned down tons of great offers to play for Coach Gill at KU. He's never played one down as a Jayhawk after redshirting 2010 and missing 2011 to the aforementioned legal concerns.

Incidentally, those criminal charges against him were dropped this week in Colorado.

Yeah, it is a pretty lousy move by Weis. But then again, he has shown no ability to understand how to run a college program up to this point.

I can't believe he landed another college head coaching job. Great vision over there, shows the problems there are much deeper then Coach Gill as some of their supporters seem to believe.

My thoughts exactly. He did such a great job with all the resources and tradition at ND!
Makes me feel even more betterer about the hire! :D

I believe he is going through an appeals hearing on Monday at KU. Based on the outcry even from diehard Jayhawk supporters, I suspect he'll be released.

Weis is doing nothing to ingratiate himself to the college football community.

Charlie Weis wrote:Today, Brock Berglund is released from his scholarship at KU to pursue other opportunities. Brock and his representatives have publicly stated their case without any public response from me to this point. Brock spent the majority of the past calendar year in Colorado taking online courses at KU’s expense, which was nearly $40,000. At no time was Brock an active participant of the football team. Once competition was recruited at the quarterback position, Brock decided he no longer wanted to be a part of the team. He was expected to show up for a mandatory team meeting on Sunday, Jan. 15, but he sent an email less than two hours before the meeting to inform us that he had decided to transfer and would not be attending the meeting. He was dismissed after following through on that promise.

Although Brock has been granted his release, I only wish that he had showed the same courtesy that other players showed and came to talk to me. He decided that he did not have to follow the same protocol as the other departing members of the football team. I believe no individual should be more important than the team. Brock did not see it that way.
Geez Charlie. Was it really necessary to air out all the details out in a temper tantrum? Just announce he's been granted his release and say good luck, even if you don't mean it.

What a mean, spiteful man. I guess the KU folks decided when they wanted to go in a different direction from Coach Gill that would go polar opposite in personality.

You just know that if this kid were to transfer to LU it would be portrayed in a negative light somehow for LU, whether or not it'd be warranted. But I suppose people are going to hate LU either way.

Honestly, I doubt he comes here. He's a Colorado kid who would likely have open doors all around the Rocky Mountain time zone. But he'd certainly make an interesting addition with 3 years of eligibility remaining.

It would be pretty funny if he ended up on a team that got to line up against KU one day. Even funnier if he handed Weis an L. Weis' little tirade was unprofessional, at best.

I guess he thinks he can say whatever he wants. I honestly have no idea why he has this job. Can one of those Kansas fans come back and explain this to me. How will that man make them better??? So please Kansas fans come back and explain, thanks

Fatty can say anything he wants just as long as Weiss doesn't mention a ghetto. Then he'll be fired.

I guess they did something stupid like that to Coach Gill. Sandwiched between Mangino and Weiss, he obviously didn't "fit" in.

What a mess... I had rooted for Weis in ND as college football is just better with the Irish as contenders. No way he survives more than 2 years at Kansas.

Not sure I would want this kid. I'm far from a fan of Charlie Weiss, but Berglund clearly has issues, and more than likely everything Weiss said is true.............................. he just didn't need to say it.
