Sometimes I wonder if our players actually look for ways to lose. I like our coach; last year, the team wanted to win, and this year, it seems like a couple care, but some seem to be along for the free 4-year ride.

I hate our offensive strategy. It makes 0 sense and rarely creates makeable shots for our guys.

Gotta make free throws with 15 seconds left in regulation & likely you never see overtime..

That may be a very astute observation.

I would have to agree...you have guys who simply figure that because they are an athlete that their schooling is guaranteed even though scholarships are (or at least should be) reviewed on a year by year basis

I blame JB for not hiring a coach who is a FT specialist.

What beat us was Andre Jones taking Tavares Speaks to the hoop twice, once to tie the game and send to overtime . . . and an offensive rebound and put back. Should have had JVP playing free safety (under the basket ) to avoid this. We had the wrong personnel in there in the last few minutes of regulation. Should have had offense and defense substitutions once we had that lead. I think coach knows that now. Minaya and Speaks did not produce in key moments. Nonetheless there is a lot of heart in this team and we still may surprise some teams if we can click together as a team. Coach gets the most from the talent he has. We're going to get better before the end of the year and our future looks good with the freshmen we have and the JUCOs coming in next year. Just a few thoughts . . . .

NCAA scholarships are one year renewals........nothing guaranteed for all 4 years.

Tough loss tonite, guys. VMI absolutely lucked out and beat radford. RU is a hustling bunch, but they are young, but have potential to next season finish perhaps 6th or thereabouts.

If it wasn't so sad to see maybe some can laugh. 5 years and 14 million dollars in budgets for this.

Tough loss, need some horses, it sounds, and remember Layer took them to second just last year.

So, the question is, are you okay with a second place at best coach? I like Layer and I like how he handled the team last night. It was one of the worst reffed games that I've seen in a while. Not to mention, it was the ugliest first 17 minutes of college basketball that I've ever witnessed. With that said, there is no doubting the team's progress over past couple of weeks. This looks a lot better than took the court against UNCW.

On that note, I'm not okay with a 2nd place team being the coach's best performance. Layer has very little results to prove that he's had any success with this team. No big wins, no tournament appearances, and recruiting has been very average. With our resources, that's really sad. I'm not going to call for a change just yet but despite all of the injuries, we have to start beating at least the likes of Winthrop and such.

That was a pitiful performance especially late and in OT. I put that on coaching. 3 straight possessions in OT we jack up 3s. Since when was Curry and Ohman back on our team? Down 2, our ball, 12 secs left, 1 timeout - we looked atrocious. Didn't know what to do. I'm sure our upward coaches have practiced that scenario

Winthrop lost to Georgia and UNCA in OT - they're not that bad. Yes we should have won and yes coaching at the end was suspect. For one the guys were tired since we shortened our bench to 7 players in the second half and it may be we were running out of gas . . . and JVP should have been in on the defensive end late in the game to prevent those points in the paint.

I believe I understand the frustration, and cannot understand jacking 3's at most critical junctures.
I'm just saying that Layer took over in turmoil, hasn't had a long time to establish himself, and didn't forget how to coach in the time of one year.

The answer is....SPEND MORE $$$$$$! Build a new arena. When we don't want to hold leadership accountable and you are now 3-20 in last 23 NCAA D1 games with a 1-11 BSC record....make my ego feel better by announcing a new 15,000 seat arena. 2.5 Million budget a year is not enough...call Obama's PR team in so we can campaign that the "stimulus" (JB athletic economics) has turned the University around.
