Agree on both points, Lefty. Smith isn't in there much, but when he is, he looks very athletic and shows glimpses of great potential.

And I hate to admit it, but we REALLY miss Gordon at the 2-guard, esp. on defense.

yes I watched the game yesterday

http://statsheet.com/mcb/rankings/RPI We start 2012 328th out of 344!

This is not the New Hampshire Presidential Primary.( I like DL, I like RD) Again a few of you attack any comments that reflect our less than competitive performance.

Whether DL, RM of RD is coach looking at performance should be open. Cheering for wins over Montreat and Virginia Intermont...are we serious. Hampton is 327 and William/Mary is 332 in RPI.

The 3 point shooting and defense is less than adequate. We have the bodies to be better inside. Our defense has struggled at best. I don't think anyone has pulled scholarships, recruiting budgets or promotional funds in the last 5 years, so is it wrong to expect more?

VMI beat PC yesterday so maybe we can get a BSC win tomorrow.

You don't get it do you??? I don't get upset at you for being negative. There is plenty of things that need improvement, but you only show up when things are bad. When we were winning last season and playing better then expected you were nowhere to be found. Then we started losing and oh look who is here?? You

TTL is negative a lot of the time too, but he also is here when things are good pointing out the good things we are doing. So please stop acting like you can't be negative around here, it has gotten old.

How did you watch the game? It wasn't on TV.

In all honesty though I'm sick of making excuses for this team.

Agreed. The drop off from Evan to JC is big on offense, but it's even bigger on defense. Remember all the times Evan simply took the ball from his man on D and got us a layup? John Caleb does that too... unfortunately, JC is the one LOSING the ball.

I don't think they are excuses. I just think they are recalibrated expectations. If the roster was healthy and/or we were getting blown out they would be excuses. But with the roster where it is, it is foolish for our expectations to be sky high. It is not ideal but it is what it is and we are who we are.

Well I meant I feel like im always saying "this team could be better if..." but at some point it needs to translate to success on the hard court.

oh the lack of improvement on the defensive end is frustrating to say the least and there is no excuse for not improving on the defensive end of the court as the season goes on. That frustration leads to thoughts of if only John Brown was healthy, he would add a lot to this team and help on the defensive end of the court.

Not excuse but just a byproduct of the lack of improvement.

Lang and Layer's take on the game:
Bucs' late run sinks Liberty
By: Chris Lang | Lynchburg News and Advance
Published: December 31, 2011
For Liberty guard Jesse Sanders, the losses are less demoralizing than they are agonizing, a picture of just how close the Flames are to being a Big South contender despite a slew of injuries.

“It’s not like we’re getting beaten by 20 or 25 every game, where we’re saying, ‘My gosh, let’s just scrap this and come back next year,’” Sanders said after Liberty’s latest defeat, an 81-76 loss to Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon at Randolph College. “It’s right there. If we can find a way to tweak it 10 percent, 15 percent, we’re feeling great right now. We’re going out and celebrating a big win.”

The Flames’ margin for error is exceedingly thin, however, and against an extremely difficult early Big South schedule, the little mistakes, the small defensive breakdowns, the shots that spin in and out of the rim, they’re all adding up to ticks in the loss column.

“We’re not real in sync yet,” Liberty coach Dale Layer said. “We’ve had to start over three or four times now with our team. With John [Brown], Joel [Vander Pol], Sommy [Ogukwe] and David [Minaya] being out at different times, we’ve kind of had to reshuffle the deck. We’re not real tight yet. I think we’re playing really hard and we’re doing some good things, but we’re not doing team stuff like we need to.”

The RPI is still near irrelevant at this point. Why? Check out these RPI rankings: #4 Seton Hall, #9 Northern Iowa, #14 Long Beach State, #19 Southern Miss, #39 Norfolk State, #48 Florida, #51 Wisconsin, #52 Kansas, #66 UVa

The relevance is in the type of season they are having. Norfolk St has beaten Drexel, Toledo, TCU and a 2 pt loss to Marquette. We are 327 because we are 2-10 vs D1 teams.

Yes. And your point is what? Oh that's right you rarely have a point. You just like to take jabs and point out problems without actually providing any solid empirical solutions.

Your jabs aren't jabs. The fact that we are not very good is just pointing out problems. :dontgetit I have solutions but they wouldn't fall in line with the obvious train of thought in the core ff member who defend the direction.

CSU had two freshmen guards put 36pts on us. Struggle to defend with 11 full scholarship players. lets downgrade expectations.

Or you are a complete coward and don't have the courage to express your views.
Or you know your views are so idiotic that you would have to hide your head in shame.
Or you think you have such a superior intellect that we common folk could not even begin to grasp your ethereal concepts.
Or you actually have no solutions and are an empty suit.

The answers are fairly obvious...you need more talent or need to better develop the recruits you are blowing up as major steals.

The idiots are the ones who justify mediocrity in our athletics while the $$$ we spend is in the top of the state. At some point we will ask for accountability not just pandering for excuses.

Let's hope we can change the current course.

I would have to concur PH...but he obviously wont be happy unless JB is removed as AD (since he stole his first love or ran over his cat or something...)
#373740
I'm sorry but what does JB have to do with the players on the court?
ToC suggests nothing but broad strokes. Gosh, recruit more talent? Wow, piercing insight. I guess we have NEVER had a more talented team lose this many games.
Instead of finding ways to win with the talent we have, his great insight is:fire the AD.
Instead of offering new strategic insights to best utilize a roster riddled with injuries, we get : Recruit more talent.

I have seen LU teams with more talent be less competitive then this team. I have seen LU teams with more talent roll over and play dead. I have also seen teams with inferior talent do great things and pull off major upsets.
#373742
When's the last time LU has ever pulled off an upset in any sport? Hasn't happened since I've been following athletics here (other then men's soccer beating UVA).
#373759
OK you who wish to live in the ff fantasy world that more is being done with the athletic resources/opportunity than continue with your false reality. We were sold on how these programs were moving to a national stage and it has only happened with our press conferences. But if we challenge the notion that the current level of performance is unsatisfactory it is an empty suit.

The only thing empty is the Vines Center tomorrow night.
