Bite your tounge. I even think that the pigs themselves are embarrased for Carolina BBQ. Memphis was good, Texas was very good, Alabama was good, Have not been to KC.

KC offers up a completely different flavor than the rest. While the pulled pork in Memphis is outstanding, KC offers up some tangier flavors. Lunch at Gates is a must and there are dozens of other great dinner options. Of course what makes Central Texas BBQ great is not the sauce, but the way it is cooked for hours & hours. Although I'd put some Texas sauces up against the best anywhere.

And for the record, I've had barbecue a couple of times in NC places that are supposed to be off the hook. They weren't.

I think the Tea Room sounds good. We ate at Cracker Barrel-husb wanted familiar; we stopped at another one in PA on the way home Mon. There were a few places I don't remember any mention of- Ryan's on Wards Rd., Japanese Steakhouse, Rubs on 460W, Charley's, Golden Corral.

There's a Rubs on 460W now? I only know about the one on Fort Ave/Timberlake Rd.

Have been to many of the small town BBQ places outside Austin--Lockhart, Taylor, Elgin, Dripping Springs, Sweetwater. I lived in Austin from 80-84 so I had time to try many of the places around town.

Ok, if you are dropping Lockhart, Taylor & Elgin you know some of the best haunts. Althought I would argue Cooper's in Llano is the ultimate brisket. And Luling's Meat Market isn't far behind.

Milltown Tea Room is a GREAT place to take out of town company--very classy without being pretensious. It's even nicer than Twin Oakes out in Forest which I like a lot. Cracker Barrel--no way in hell!

Twin Oaks is our other regular spot in town. We got to know them back at the old bakery and like the new place very well--but we still fill-up on the rolls.

Besides, I was already ticked b/c he woke up our 3 yr. old when were looking at houses and I dared to correct him on the e-mail address :) I'm not real picky abt. restaurants but certainly have preferences. I'll plan on avoiding Ryan's if I'm down there again. As far as Rubs, maybe I was wrong b/c we did come from Fort Ave. at one pt.
