Comments like these make me lose sleep.

I can't stop thinking about what scenarios move us up. I can see the Sun Belt/CUSA being a good fit for us to make the jump
I know you're new but don't worry eventually you get used to it (going without sleep). Pretty much every thread on here for the past year+ ends up being merged into the Conference Realignment Megathread.
And RVAparks, the Big East has been very busy ... as have the conferences just below them. Expect a flurry of announcements in the coming days.
I hope so, but I've been hearing that for just about every week for the past three months, so I'm not going to hold my breath. I do know there has been a lot of churning here in Richmond w/ the CAA and down in Newport News w/ the A10.
Guys, things are lining up very quickly right now from the Big East on down. After the Big East has their expansion news conference, the C-USA will begin their announcements almost immediately. That will also lead the Sunbelt, WAC & MAC to begin their public pursuits. At this point I would almost be surprised if we weren't in an FBS league by this summer. In fact, it could happen much sooner.
If the CAA comes to us, it is because they have had mass defections. We wouldn't wantnthatbat all. It is FBS or bustbfor us at this point.
Okay, well my question is, just because these conferences are expanding...why would you think that we'll be in an FBS conference by this summer? I'm not saying your wrong, I just want to know where you're getting that information. I as much as anyone else wants to move up asap but from what I've heard, we're not anyone's top option right now. I was talking to some UL Monroe fans and asked them what they thought of us in their conference. Almost all of them said that we would be a good addition to the Sun Belt but that there are much better options, and they weren't referring to W/L records. Again, I don't really have any insiders here at LU but it's hard for me to believe that "we'll be in an FBS conference by the summer." We may be there and we may not be there. I do think we'll have an answer as to if we're moving up anytime soon by this summer.

Sly and everyone else really, would you care to predict all the moves? Could be another post entirely and could be fun. I'm sure you have some unique insight since it seems like where you live may be in a tornado of realignment.

Sly knows people (seriously who has that list). Don't question the fox
I am being speculative in regard to LU. But it is based on information I have in other areas that appears to be opening doors. And to clarify, it is looking to me like we could announce our move up to an FBS league by summer but it would likely be the Fall of 2013 before this would all go down. Then again, we have the flexibility coming from the Big South to potentially make the move for next fall.
cjsweat - Louisiana-Monroe has no business in the Sunbelt. They have half as many fans show up at their dumpy little HS stadium as we do while operating on a fraction of the budget. They are the primary reason why we aren't FBS already. It was their embarrassing decision to move up that gave the NCAA the validity to begin shutting down the move ups. Trust me when I tell you that the line of schools trying to get into the Sunbelt is short and the options are dreadful. The only thing we don't have that the league wants is a location in a major media market that preferably sits in their existing footprint. Incidentally that league is about to be raided and will have plenty of openings if they want to survive.
Thanks to significant investment and forward-thinking by our school's leadership, we have become well-positioned to make a move into one of the FBS leagues. The fact that we already are lining up our total sports and the Title IX concerns in and of itself would move us past a slew of schools that you might assume would be more attractive than us. And the fact that we have plans in place and an ability to expand our football stadium also helps us immensely. Keep in mind that many of the Sunbelt/WAC/MAC schools have poorer facilities and are cash-strapped by state budgets which means it will be tough for them to qualify as FBS members. We have set aside nearly all of those barriers.
Guys, we are in a much more enviable position than most fans either in the LU or outside world realize right now. But the people who matter know our position. That's why will be in the mix for nearly every opportunity that arises after the Big East opens the floodgates. Some of the moves that are about to occur will be jaw-dropping if they go down the way I am hearing from insiders.
Oh, wow. I really had no idea that we were that ahead of everyone else. I hope I didn't come across as harsh in my post, I was really just looking for clarification. However, that seems pretty legit...haha.

Are you admitting there are people who know things you don't? You're finally coming around the last week or so.

There is that possibility. But frankly I am just excited because I remember where we were in Division II when I was in school and where we could be in the coming months. Even the MAC would be celebrated in the Sly household. It didn't happen accidentally and required a great deal of vision on the part of our our administration and athletic department to put us in this position. Now it is just a matter of waiting on those dominoes. San Diego State could get this all going shortly. Their contemplation of holding up everything.

I can't help but think we will have never made the playoffs.
It's not important to have done so like so many misguided folks on here think, but it just sticks in my craw that we never did.
I agree. But then I immediately turn off that negativity and turn to $$$ and ESPN and $$$ and FBS and the opportunity of a BCS school playing at the Bill and $$$
