Hey Trot. From what I remember, this construction will not start until sometime in the spring to be ready by Spring 2012.

Here is the quote from the newspaper that says they will start in mid-fall...it's time!!

Lynchburg, VA. - Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said Liberty plans to start construction on a new baseball stadium by mid-Fall.

Again bear in mind Trott that circumstances change and that can cause things to be delayed. As was noted by 09 and myself, theyd have to shut down the road running between Green Hall and the football stadium to get construction equipment to the site and to begin the necessary clearing for the new baseball stadium. If Liberty wins the Big South championship this weekend and they get the opportunity to host a home game, they are going to need to use that road for gameday traffic and land clearing would have to take a backseat at least until I would think the week after the game.

My understanding was it would start after the football season. So, hopefully that will be a couple weeks.

Its the kind of rigidity youre displaying to timetables that would make me think that you wouldnt make a very good AD Trottalot. Yes they said they wanted to start mid-fall, but as has been repeated by myself and two others in this discussion, football is the primary focus at this point. Because of our being in contention for a playoff berth (and at least a first round home game), they have to show some flexibility because as has been already noted, we are going to need roads that would be used for moving equipiment needed for clearing land for construction of the baseball stadium, are also the roads we are going to need to get cars in and out of the parking lots on gameday if we are hosting a playoff game.

I am willing to bet anyone that the baseball stadium will not be completely finished by the first game of the 2013 season. I have not witness any project to get completed or open on time at LU. The planning committee has failed in the planning of this; and the parking at this university. LU has got to address the parking issue; as they want to continually grow in size. At the new stadium site; where are people going to park for the baseball games? Build a big parking garage quick. Oh and by the way as far as the AD job goes; I believe I would make a good one as I would have had a new stadium built years ago with private money.

Have you been in on the meetings about the stadium Trott? How do you know that they havent discussed parking once the stadium is built. How do you know that they havent talked about what all they want to go into the stadium, how many renderings they have been through before coming up with a final plan and layout. How do YOU, some keyboard jockey, know what goes on inside the athletic department and what has gone on as they plan this stadium? Also, how do YOU know that youd have gotten the stadium built years ago?

Better yet, when's the last time LU built something on time?

Everyone could tell the football stadium wasn't going to be built in time, but they kept saying it would be. Until it wasn't. It was just barely ready to go for Savannah State. And I loved the snow excuse. Sure they were major storms, but most occurred on the weekends. Also, only 3 occurred, as it would be different if their were a series of minor snow events.

I know I'm harping on something that really doesn't matter, I'm just not sure why Beej has to jump on everybody who dares to raise a skeptical eye.

Listen Mr. Poster of the Year 2008; it seems you are the one that lives on here while others actually are out getting things done. How do you know that I haven't been and how do you know that I would not have? Your opinion is just that...yours.

Fortunately, construction projects are not subject to the timetables of fans who want their new stadium and they want it now! It is better to get it right than to slap something up in order to get it done and then regret that speed led to poor workmanship and oversight of key improvements that can be made along the way. Having been in on the construction process of several houses, I can tell you it never seems to get done fast enough at the time, but in the end you are thankful for taking your time during the process and getting it right. Seems some of the East campus dorms were put up too fast some time ago and they were subject to alot of problems as a result. Patience, fellas, it will be worth it when it is done.

Barber was on the the coaches show tuesday and he said january construction would start. I would assume this is because of the impending playoff game and then the VHSL high school championships.

I'm sure that's what the gravel parking lot was developed for baseball parking as it can be used for Flames Club football parking as well.
