Chapman's payoff isn't in his stats, so much. It's in the holes in the offensive line he creates for the linebackers to do work. Sigmon and Hyland have been taking advantage.

That was my thought too when I saw how much they've been running the ball. Time to see if all the Asa drama was worth it. Otherwise I don't think he's really done anything positive for the team.

Our safeties have some very good size, but that's not the case for our cornerbacks. Hutchins has good size but Anderson and Porter are definitely undersized and some combination of these three will be on the field. Devante Wheeler at 5' 11" has decent size and has looked good in his limited runs at corner, but so far in his career he has been primarily a special teams player. We've had some injuries at corner with Ivan May and Cedrick Moore both missing the entire season, but they're not big guys either. Summers and kelly will cause match up problems.

Laffayette 400 - highest total of the year, haven't passed 300 in another game

Chris offers up some early thoughts on the game a week from Saturday ...

I think there will be a lot of pressure on Liberty’s cornerbacks to be strong in man coverage because they’ll be on an island quite a bit. Stony Brook’s strength is clearly running the ball, and the Flames will probably throw a lot of run blitzes at SBU and play the safeties up to keep the run game under control. But Kyle Essington is capable of throwing the football, and the play-action game could end up being big. That’s where it helps having a guy like Brent Vinson at linebacker. He’s played safety. He can cover running backs and tight ends over the middle if needed. But I can’t imagine LU will throw a ton of soft Cover 2 at the Seawolves knowing how well Miguel Maysonet and Brock Jackolski can run the ball. Another positive: cornerbacks Walt Aikens and Kevin Fogg are both very strong tacklers and excel in run pursuit.

The guys to watch out for really are Chris Summers (6-5), Pat Kelly (6-3 and has 4 TDs of 50 yards or longer), BJ Hayes (5-9) and Tommy Shaver (6-6). Garner has been out the last few weeks but if he is able to go next Saturday that could make for some interesting matchups

I didn't make a dumb statement. I had already looked up their stats for each of their games and saw that 231 and 184 before I posted. I still posted because I have a hard time believing UTEP and Buffalo game-planned half as much as we will. And I highly doubt they put more than 7 in the box which is what lukon was referencing.

My main concern as a Stony Brook fan is pass defense and honestly I don't think Liberty is a good match up for us (I'm hoping for another nor'easter). I would like to point out that Stony Brook caused 3 turnovers against UTEP's passing game (a qb fumble and two interceptions) and 5 turnovers against Lafayette passing game (two fumbles and three interceptions). Utep, Brown, Lafayette, and CSU were all forced to throw because their ground games were shut down-I wouldn't be surprised if the games were also their season lows for rushing.

In the beginning of the season I considered stony brook's d to be high risk/high reward. The schedule has gotten easier and we've given up less passing yards but are also forcing less turnovers. It'll be interesting...
