I know this is a long ways off but I just want to get everybody's opinion on this. We all know the game this weekend with Bama and LSU (I think Bama will win) so one of these teams will finish the season with 1 loss. I just can't see anybody on their remaining schedules beating either team. So lets say Bama wins a close one, like 3 points, and Oklahoma beats OSU and Oregon beats Stanford. That leaves Bama undefeated, LSU with one loss, and Boise undefeated. So who plays in the National Championship? Personally I'd like the LSU Bama rematch but I'm not sure thats possible. Could Boise make the title game in that situation? Or will the weak MWC schedule take them out of that possibility? Or could Oklahoma, OSU, or Stanford make it with one loss?

Id find it hard to believe that two teams from the same conference (much less the same division of the same conference) would get matched up again...but at the same time, I think the head honchos at the BCS would rather be forced to listen to Wayne Newton for 72 straight hours then allow Boise State to play for the national championship

I don't believe Boise deserves a shot at the title. I think a one loss team from the Pac-12, Big 12, and SEC are more deserving than an undefeated Boise team.

I have to say to this point, it should be LSU and Alabama in the NC game, regardless of what happens with the other teams. The SEC is by far the best conference, and produces the best teams. Just my opinion. Yes, I know Boise beat Georgia, and I think Boise can compete with most of the SEC, but not big teams like Alabama and LSU. Having said that, I think it would be great to see them get a chance to.

You definately picked a very good topic to talk about aredd33.

Boise did beat Alabama as a sidelight to this discussion (it was in 2008 I think but they have beaten them)

The 2008 Boise team doesn't have a chance at the title. We are talking about 2011. If you saw a schedule with no team name on it only the teams that they beat and the scores there is no way that it would be worthy of a title shot. Which is what is going on with Boise. If you blindly look at the schedule it falls well short of even consideration compared to BSC conferences.

I didnt say they deserved a shot aredd, I think Boise is about the third or fourth in line at this point but if things fall just the right way in the next few weeks you may very well see that scenario (and BCS officials potentially on suicide watch if Boise wins the national championship)

Please look it up because I don't think they ever have.

Ahh I think I confused them with Utah (who was a BCS buster themselves for a while until they joined the Pac 12)

You know, there would be a great way to solve the problem of figuring out who should play in a championship game. It's a crazy thing called a playoff.

This +1000... what happens when you have an undefeated Stanford along with an undefeated Okie State team? How do you justify putting one of them in over the other? Also give Bosie their due they play some tough games and seem to come out on top (over the years). If those other teams fall idk how you don't give them a shot. I don't think they are the best team in the country but this again just shows how poor the BCS system is.

I love how the SEC snobs use scheduling as an excuse for why Boise State doesn't deserve to be in the National Championship game. Those same teams refuse to schedule home-and-homes or home-away-home series with BSU. If you are going to refuse to schedule these teams you can't use that argument.

Incidentally it is that same SEC-style thinking that has kept us out of the playoffs for years at the FCS level.

The playoff is the only way to solve the problem and no one in authority wants to see that happen.

Here is what itd probably have to take for that to happen:

1. The Alabama-LSU winner loses the SEC Championship
2. Stanford loses to Oregon or loses to Notre Dame AND loses the Pac-12 Championship
3. Oklahoma loses to Oklahoma State in the Bedlam game (which means more than likely that Ok State wins out)

1. The winner would have to get back up for their next game, let alone the SEC championship game
2. Stanford has shown they can be beaten.
3. I would say Oklahoma would have to beat OSU, giving them both one loss.

It IS possible and from a game spectator perspective I'd love it. Doubt it would happen, but I'm trying to work on my VISION!

I was trying to describe what it would take to end up with a Boise State-Oklahoma State BCS title game...if all three of those things happen they (Boise and Oklahoma State) would probably end up top two

That's fair. If the Alabama LSU winner loses the SEC title game they wont be undefeated. If Stanford loses to Oregon, they wont go to the Pac-12 Championship more than likely (unless Oregon loses to two of the other three remaining games vs UW, at home vs USC or vs. Oregon State), and if Oklahoma loses to Oklahoma State they have two losses. Now Ok State has K-State this weekend and the Wildcats are coming off getting pounded by Oklahoma last week and will look to play spoiler to Ok State. They get Texas Tech and Iowa State after that which are both winnable leading up to Bedlam in Stillwater so this could be their last real challenge before the December 3 matchup. Boise gets TCU on Nov 12 and that should be their only significant challenge to going undefeated. They win that one and they will certainly be scoreboard watching in the coming weeks

So what? Bama is opening 2012 with a game against Michigan (at Cowboy Stadium). It's not a home-and-home matchup either. They did play Penn state Home/Home, but the previous two years they played Clemson & Virginia Tech in ATL.
Sly Fox wrote: Incidentally it is that same SEC-style thinking that has kept us out of the playoffs for years at the FCS level.
Get your facts straight. The SEC has had a playoff game for 20 years. It's called the SEC championship game. They were the first conference to have one.

The only playoff I would be for is a "plus one." The regular season should mean something. I am not one of those who is saying that the loser of the BAMA/LSU game should play in the National Championship game. (Actually, we all know that the SEC Championship game IS the national championship game, but I digress). All these teams crying about not having a playoff can do something about it... MOVE DOWN TO D1AA.

Oh, come on now. I was cheering for Nebraska last week! :D

Good move, by the way, for them to get out of the "Big 12" [insert poke at Sly]

I’m with you BYD. Who wouldn’t want to see this (taken with today’s BCS ratings though I changed it a little bit):

1 Alabama – 16 Cincinnati
8 Oregon – 9 South Carolina

4 LSU – 13 Houston
5 Boise St – 12 VA Tech

6 Oklahoma – 11 Clemson
3 Oklahoma St – 14 Penn St

7 Arkansas 10 Nebraska
2 Stanford 15 Kansas St

National semifinals of:
1 Alabama – 4 LSU
2 Stanford – 6 Oklahoma

Tell me that wouldn’t be fun.
