When UGA Played Coastal this year or when Florida plays Chuck South, their students showed up, i can go into numerous examples of this of when a school plays a no name team the student body shows up in force. We need the student body to step up and be consistent so we we can truly show the world that LU has a great fan base. Recruits look at this stuff. What does the coaching staff tell a recruit yesterday about the atmosphere?? well kid its a cold day and our students would rather sit in their dorm and watch a school they have never attended??? but when its warm its the best in FCS! We will never know if Richmond came to down that 16,000+ would be there...i would venture to say no, because i have been around a lot longer than you have and been around LU my entire life...im a semi old fart..and there was a time back in the Sam area that we were ranked and GA. Southern came to town ranked, and the weather was awful and the students did not show up. You need to understand that the students are the key to keep the atmosphere going in the right direction no matter who we play and they are also the key to the next expansion of the Bill. Though strides have been made with the baptist side the students are the key. Im done with this topic. we will have to agree to disagree. lets beat VMI!
What don't you understand? We aren't Florida or Georgia. Why should we expect our students to not pull for those schools if that's where they came from. VT had no sincere student fans before they joined the Big-East. It's the same thing. There are only a handful of FCS schools that can sell out their stadium period. We should appreciate that we're in that category rather than complain about our students not showing up yesterday. I've been an LU fan my entire life too and if you really have, then you know that back then we didn't have this many people attending the school. We weren't investing anything into the football program in those days and LU itself was nearing bankruptcy. I know that the student side has to be better, my point is that it won't get better until we give them a reason to get better. They're going to start out as fairweather fans and turn into die-hard fans. That's how almost every fan starts out unless you're born into the team.

YOU don't have the experience of starting your own company, your dad does. If my dad was a pro athlete would that make ME a pro athlete? You don't have the experience a balancing a ledger, your dad does. Being around it is nit a bad thing, but it by no means makes you an expert.
I'm 22 and by several I mean 4. This past summer, I was working three jobs simultaneously. Last winter, while in school, I was working 2 jobs and on staff for a congressional campaign. I've never worked anywhere, where I haven't been promoted.

I know that I don't have the experience that my Dad does. However, I do have experience starting a company. When I was 14, I started my own roller hockey league and had about 15 people playing in it. I had to manage it, build the schedule and ref the games. I never said I was an expert but I know a thing or two about starting a company. I'm also in the midst of writing a business plan for an actual for-profit company that I'm starting. So, you might want to ask before you assume.

Would have loved too :), unfortunately this was in hick-town, southwest virginia and it was hard enough finding players and a place to play.

I just wish cjsweat was the AD at Liberty. It sure would be nice. He could get us into the SEC in his first 48 hours on the job and bring in only top 15 teams for home games and give students a reason to come. (Cause we all know that going to watch their own school play in meaningless. We will just forget the fact that the players have class with all the students the students know them and talk to them.)

I just wish that aredd was the AD at Liberty. It would be awesome. He could keep us in the Big-South forever and consistently bring in KWU and Gardner Webb. Woohoo! He could also keep the students stuck up in their dorms watching Virginia Tech and Auburn. (Cause we all know that going to watch your own school pound teams like Charleston Southern is so much more entertaining, especially when it's freezing! We will just have to keep blaming the students for not coming to football games while we provide them with nothing fun to watch.)

I wonder what percentage of the "entire" student body at schools like Wake Forest & NC State attend home games .... I bet Liberty matches that percentage. Long term the big numbers have to come from alumni, family members, and locals. I think moving to the next level is the only way to get those people to the game week after week.

I lived in a hick town. And I drove to north carolina to play.

Anyways, good job trolling all these people. :D

Dude, I'm all for a move into a better conference. IT ISN'T AN EASY THING TO DO. Please explain how we get into a better conference. What should the administration be doing differently?

Why don't you just read above and see how I've explained numerous times how we do that?

Because you were talking about business and playing roller hockey.

to say that we are not doing everything possible to get out the big south is a uninformed statement. you dont know what jeff barber is and is not doing. there is no way to know. what we do know is that the goal is to be big time. period. we will do whatever it takes to get there. we are not there yet.

play better teams. get better fans. BOTH are needed to become big time!! to say that we are not trying on both fronts is also a mistake. we all want to be in the BCS tomorrow, but these things take TIME.

Read above all of that and you will find where I said that we need to initiate conversations with other conferences and make a public statement that that's what we're doing. I agree that these things take time and sure I don't know everything about what w'ere doing. However, I do know that we aren't making it public when we should be. We would have nothing to lose by doing that . It's not like the Big-South is going to kick us out. All it does is create competition from other coferences. It's what Mizzou did to try and get into the SEC and that is starting to look like a done deal. Texas A&M did the same thing and it's working out for them.

Holy crap, you people are dumb. Please read the whole thing before making comments. I only brought that up because someone said something along the lines of me having no experience starting my own company. That has nothing to do with LU or leaving the Big South. It was only to prove that I had some experience. Keep being ignorant and keeping your head stuck in your rear-end. It gets you real far in life...

Youre right BYD...if it was as easy as that we'd have been out of the Big South a long time ago Im sure. (There's a reason why the people we have in athletic administration are in the positions they are in and folks like cjsweat...well...arent...and posts like this ^^dont help one's credibility either...)

It is not necessary to make anything public. If it was important for this to be made public to create an advantage in messageboardland or public media, it would have been done. The investment that is made in the athletic department is known by other conferences. Decision makers (university presidents) and influencers (athletic departments / consultants) for conference additions are aware of Liberty's interest in improving their conference affiliation.

As for students not showing up at the game... I cringe to say this but have you ever though they have papers they need to work on this time of year? I worked on 5 of my papers that are upcoming for 4 straight hours before taking the one hour trek to the game. (Hey, at least I didn't work on my papers at the game, right?) :D

I understand the frustration, but what's done is done. You all are proving my point that I made a few months ago that half the student section is dead weight anyway. Yeah, it's good to see them fill up the seats for the TV's, that I admit. But after that, they're no good for anything.

Sweat,
Just a thought/word of advice, you should quit while you are way behind. As a fellow LU alum, I hope you are not the typical LU student. Your spelling and use of grammar are actually worse than your logic, if that is possible.
Carry on.

Yeah, because judging someone's success by them being or not being in the atletic administration when they're 22 is real smart. Secondly, I wouldn't accept a job in the athletic admin here, if I was given a million a year for life, because if this is any indication of the support, forget it. Blaming the students? Seriously? Telling them their bad fans because they have lives outside of football?

Quite honestly, I don't care about my grammar when I'm on flamefans. Writing a paper for English Lit is different but on here, I could care less.

Yeah, when it matters. Until I start getting graded on my activity in Flamefans or employers start getting on the site to judge my future employement, I don't care about it on here.
