People are bailing on Shanahan in the 1st year of the 1st true attempt at building the right way since the 1st Gibbs era? Really? Other Redskins fans embarrass me sometimes.
This team upgraded at RB, WR, C, OG, DE, NT, OLB, CB and FS in the offseason. They've got a good young LT who has played much better in his 2nd year. They've gotten rid of the locker room cancers that absolutely had to go. That's on top of a 6-10 team from last year. 7-9, 8-8 are still attainable, but with the injuries I wouldn't mind another 6-10 type finish with a top 10 pick to land one of the 4 (Luck, Jones, Barkley, RGIII) top tier QBs in the draft.
That 2012 draft sees the Skins with ALL of their picks for the 1st time in recent memory. They've also got Oakland's 4th for Campbell, Minnesota's 6th for McNabb, and a conditional 6th from NO for Brown (if he plays 90% of the plays this year which he's on pace for). They've also got a 2013 6th for McNabb and 7th for Fat Al. That's how you build a winner from within.
With Moss down, you can run a top 3 of Gaffney, Armstrong and Stallworth at first while letting the young guys have a shot to earn a spot for the future. Even without Hightower, you've got Torain and Helu who both have shown enough to feel comfortable with them in the game. The OL is the only real weak spot right now and that's okay with Locklear being the best backup OT the team has had in a long time and Cook looking decent so far. The defense is fine as long as the opposing QB isn't freakishly mobile like Vick and Newton.
The Skins go into the next draft with 10 picks, 5 in the top 4 rounds, and needs at QB, #1 CB, ILB (need a real prospect there), and more OL depth. Even if they finish around the middle of the pack this year, there are enough extra lower round picks to move up and grab the last of the 4 QB prospects and still be able to hit the other needs.
This is the best position the Skins have been in since 1991 outside of the egotrip that ran Martyball out of town after only 1 year.
