Mikel Hawks passed Shayne Graham's consecutive extra point mark of 76 in a row on Friday night, to take over 2nd place all time in state of Virginia and 6th all time nationally. Mikel will be visiting Liberty again this weekend.

Evaluating kickers is a lot like evaluating runners. Objectivity is much more fun for me.

4:10 mile on a track in high school = REALLY FAST RUNNER

50+ yard range FG kicker in high school = REALLY GOOD KICKER

George Wythe kicker Mikel Hawks made 80 straight extra point attempts, which puts him at second-best in state history, according to the VHSL.

WYTHEVILLE, Va. -- George Wythe High School head football coach H.S. Ingo has one rule when it comes to handling kicker Mikel Hawks.

No tinkering.

“I try not to mess with kickers and I tell our coaches, we’re not messing with kickers,” Ingo said. “We’ve been blessed to have Mikel and we have some other kids in our program that can kick very well. It’s such an asset.”

In other words, if it’s not broke don’t try fixing it.
