(fingers-crossed)

Kind of a stupid question (but I've seen dumb Big South tiebreakers before), if Coastal did beat SB, and then SB beat us, is there a scenario where we still win the conference outright or is the tiebreak strictly head to head (which it should be)?

Head-to-head is not an option in a 3-way tie.

We need to win all of our games to get the autobid. If Stony Brook were to beat Liberty, the only way Liberty can go over Stony Brook is if SB were to lose 2 of their next 3 games.

If we win all 3 remaining conference games, we are in the playoffs. There is no excuse for us not to get that done. We have the talent and experience.

the applicable tie-break would be road wins. So if our 1 loss is to SB on the road, while their only loss is to CCU at home, they are the champs due to winning out on the road.

I think.

Coastal is out of the tiebreak mix unless SBU and Liberty each lose two games. Highly unlikely.

The only way that Liberty-SBU isn't winner-take-all is if SBU is 3-2 heading into that game and Liberty is 5-0 (or the other way around). Liberty can actually afford to lose to either PC or VMI and still be in the winner-take-all situation no matter what Stony Brook does.

If SBU loses to either Charleston Southern or Gardner-Webb but beats Coastal Carolina, then the real fun begins. If we win our remaining two home games we would be 3-0 in conference at home. If Stony Brook then WINS our meeting the last week of the season...they have to go to that weird RPI/GPI style formula because both teams would be 3-0 at home and 2-1 on the road

No.
Read Lang's post. If we are 5-0 and they are 4-1 going into the last game, it is still winner-take-all. The first tie-breaker is head-to-head match-up. If we lose, we would both be 5-1 and they get the tie breaker.

I didnt say it wouldnt be winner take all 01...I just said that itd be a lot more interesting in how they would figure out said winner because if Stony Brook loses only one of their remaining two road games but beats Coastal Carolina, they will be 2-0 at home. If both teams finish 3-0 at home, then itd go to road games. If both teams are 2-1 in road games (which would happen if LU loses to SBU) then itd go to that formula to determine who gets the autobid (at least I think Im speculating that possibility correctly)
#362301
BJ, you're not getting it.

It's head-to-head.

The road win/home win/formula tiebreaker only comes into play if there's a three-way tie.

There isn't going to be a three-way tie.

It's quite simple. Unless something really weird happens, like Liberty losing twice at home or Stony Brook losing two on the road, the game in Long Island will be for all the marbles. No one else figures into it.

I actually think we've been pretty underrated this year, but that's okay, I'd rather it be that than overrated.

Although 20 sounds about right.

And good catch Prototype, it doesn't count D2 games because Delaware is 5-4 if you count their game against West Chester.

That's right ....
Only games against Division I opponents are counted.
Rankings update every 5 mins.
I think this site offers a computer generated power ranking .... I can't seem to find anything explaining what statistical data they're entering. I like checking out the over-all rankings. It gives you a good idea how FCS teams match up with conferences like the Big East, Mountain West, Conference USA, Mid-American, Sun Belt.

I'm glad this will be decided on the field on the last game of the season. Our boys will be prepared. Win or lose, neither team will have any argument with the playoff committee. It's going to be a great game. I think one team will jump to an early lead and it will even out by the end of the 3rd quarter and be decided in the fourth. I feel good about our chances.
