That was one of the nice side benefits of Hudson playing as much as he did against Kentucky Wesleyan. He won't be a deer in the headlights if he has to go in Saturday. Brennan will only be used in an emergency role.

I don't think it was that much of an upset. Yes, NSU was ranked, but the MEAC is weak this year. Look at it this way, NSU completely dominated CSU 33-3. Another point on that game, NSU is having their best season in years, ranked, playing last year's MEAC champ and playoff representative, on ESPNU, and the stands were empty :dontgetit

And what's with ESPN's love fascination with the MEAC? I wish they would pick one FCS game a week and put it on ESPNU, but not from the MEAC. They have at least one game on a week.

I know that Mike Brown wants to compete and be on the field, but I hope that there is a plan for him to be on the sideline once the game is under control.
That was my initial thought when I saw the tweet as well. I also hope the game plan does not call for a lot of MB designed runs.

I'll be focused on I95 from about 7AM until noon, then I'll focus on I26 for about 1/2 hour. Then I'll focus (and not try to laugh) and the CSU stadium until game time. Then my focusing is done. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy a whooping as we set flames to the bucs ship that sailed just after kickoff. :nod

Its funny to me when people post about "we" as in fans, need to stop talking about future games, because we have a big game this week.

"We" dont play.

"We" support the school, and in turn pay for the scholarships and facilities that allow the players to play to the best of their abilities. Ask Charleston Southern what it's like to have no support.

Otherwise I hate the use of "we" as well. How can I say "we" the Mets if I haven't purchased a ticket from them in 3 years? Why would I say "we" the Mets in the first place?

When my parents went to this school and signed a document that put them in debt for the rest of their lives they had the right to say, "we." When I signed the same document sentencing me to the same, I was given the right to saw, "we." When I recommend this school to my friends or family and then they commit, I have the right to say, "we." You see it's people like me that are the reason Liberty continues to exist. In conclusion, it's time for us to go win a big south title and take this thing to playoffs.

NSU also had a halftime lead against West Virginia this season. They've played well to this point, but their offensive gameplan Thursday was atrocious.

As far as the ESPNU plan goes, I agree that the MEAC centric coverage is odd. I would think they'd lean heavily on CAA, SoCon, and Big Sky while sprinkling in other big non-conference games during the year. It makes little sense for the MEAC, and Ivy (game of the week on Versus/NBC Sports), to be the primary recipients of TV time for FCS. The ESPN3 content shows they've got access to more.

I think it's a pretty well known fact throughout the black community that at historically black universities, football is not very well supported by the students. I think, I don't know. Just going off of what I've heard from a few people that attended those institutions.

As for ESPN and the MEAC? I think you already know the answer to the question, so there is no need to answer.
6 of the 11 MEAC teams finished in the top 40 for FCS attendance last season with NSU finishing #29 with an average of 11,879. It may have looked empty, but the reported attendance was 10,053 in a stadium that holds 30,000. There may have been more on the hard camera side, there may have been tickets sold that weren't used when the game was moved to Thursday from it's original Saturday, etc.

5 of 10 SWAC teams finished in the top 40 for FCS attendance last year with 2 more finishing 45th and 46th respectively.

The two primary conferences for historically black colleges pull in pretty good attendance for the level they play on.

BTW, those with access to MASN, they've aired nearly every LU game this year. Today's game will be airing at 11:30 tonight if you want to get your DVR ready.

BuryYourDuke wrote:Yeah, talking to a few friends, it seems like it's not an attendance issue. Just an actual issue of people caring about the football on the field. Apparently it's a social scene, which is why you don't see people in the bleachers on tv. They are walking around socializing.
That actually makes a good bit of sense as well. With that being such a big HS football area, I'd guess that there are quite a few folks who have known each other for years and only catch up at the football games.

I'm thinking it would look have looked better on a Saturday than a Thursday night that got switched to fairly recently. I wonder if they were somewhere in the midterm/fall break area as well.

SuperJon wrote:MEAC/SWAC attendance numbers are skewed heavily by the classics they play. They'll have 30,000+ for a classic or homecoming and then 7000 for a regular game.
That's not particularly true either. The classics are mostly neutral site games that don't count toward average home attendance for either squad.

Here's NSU's attendance for their 4 home games this season:

VA. State: 17,357
SC State: 10,137
Hampton: 19,556
Bethune: 10,053

Seems pretty consistent with the bigger numbers for in state opponents who can travel more easily.

Hampton (2010 average 10,551) played Morgan St. (2010 average 5853) in the new Giants Stadium this year. The crowd for that was just under 25k. That does not count toward average attendance for either team.

No way there were that many people sitting in the stands on Thursday. I've been in that stadium a bunch of times (one for an LU game and the rest were high school games) and I have never seen it that empty.
