Re: his job last nite-

Color me impressed. This kid stepped up when given the opportunity and got the job done.

Eager to see how CONSISTENT he becomes and what his range is.

Dare we hope for 4 more years of "Bevins-like" production?

PS: he looks like a freakin' LB - reminded me of Sebastian Janikowski, so I looked- size is nearly identical

Im curious about his range too...his web video by my estimate was around 45 yards but Id like to see his legit range on a football field

ahh i locked myself out of my jenkins username..ran c cleaner and my computer it deletes all the cookies, spybots and password savers, had to go back to the old account.

I've been watching alex in warmups the last couple weeks and i think he has more range than bevins does...he was drilling them from 55 in warmups against RMU...i'm not sure he's quite as consistent because he hit a couple balls off the side of the foot that were low liners. I think we'll be OK at kicker.

2 things
1. He is our version of Sabastian Janakowski
2. REALLY needs to work on his running form!

Hate to see Bevins miss any significant time, but it looks like Alex can knock them down when it counts. It was funny that when he went out there for his first attempt last night, the first thing that popped into my mind was, "Is that the kid from the basketball hoop video?"

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw that.
(I'm a track coach, so I get picky with things like that)

Funny you say that, the RM game I sat in front of the kickers and noticed him practicing. I said to myself why is that LB kicking??

If I may dare to be positive, kudos to this kid for performing in the clutch last week. He did a great job.

that was a call by the ST coaches to sky right. He just did not kick it far enough for the coverage to get down there

this is why I love walk-ons:
LANG wrote:"You know, there’s a certain sound a ball makes when it comes off someone’s foot who has the kind of leg power and leg strength that he has, and he has that," Roberts said, adding that he was comfortable sending Kacere out to kick from up to 50 yards away against JMU. "He has an awful lot of potential to be a very explosive kicker."

another good story LANG

This coupled with Matt Kicking when he did not have any business being out there, were major special teams FLUBS. Games are not won and lost on one or two plays. But these few HURT badly.

I blame the sky kick more on a stupid idea by the coaches than I do Alex. Its not as though we had issues with the kick returner (except for one return).

you blame the coaches even though Kacere himself said it was his mistake?

Yes. Because the coaches told him to sky kick it. Duh.

Couldn't make it to the game last week, but on the TV they said Kacere made like 52% of his kicks in HS, that was a little scary to hear. Although I don't really follow HS kickers, and I really don't know what a good % is for a HS kicker trying to play FCS ball.

My guess is it depends on where most of their kicks were from. If he is hitting 52 percent and most of them are from ~30 yards and in that would be a problem because those kicks should be almost like breathing. If most of them are from ~40 yards or further, then that is a pretty good percentage IMO

Let's also not forget that many high school teams don't even have a kicker. When our school played Patrick County, VA, the QB was the kicker and he was about 50% alone on PAT's.

That and I'll let BJ get away with another captain obvious :D

Alex did a great job stepping up this past weekend..hopefully he can kick the ball deeper so we can have some better starting position for our defense..but he did what he was called to do and hope that he continues to do so!

Other walk-on kicker, McConnell (R)F was Virginia All-State and All-Met..broke school scoring record for kickers with 87 points his junior season..formerly owned by Bitancurt, current WVA kicker. Was 18-22 in FG's during his two seasons on varsity. Numerous awards coming out of high school, originally went to Buffalo (MAC), but transfered in last January.
