I agree. We should only play stuff like Steven Curtis Chapman, The Gaithers (when they're not on homecoming), and maybe a little White Heart. :D

I could understand pulling don't stop believing. Not that I really care, but you could make an argument for it. I think you quickly learn whenever you go to an FBS game where they play rap songs where the F-Bomb is dropped out every 10 seconds, I don't much care what Liberty plays.

The fact of the matter, the music is probably mostly for the students. So that's why they play what they play. And whether some like it or not, this is what kids listen to these days. And probably worse.

Bigsmooth, I just do not agree with the direction that the music is going at Liberty University. If we are a Christian school, can we not play at least one Christian song? Maybe we are trying to appeal to a broader fan base. If it takes playing secular, inappropriate music to attract people to the stadium, I would rather that there be fewer fans. Here's one that was played twice during the game: http://www.metrolyrics.com/tonight-toni ... e-rae.html

grad11, they do play Christian music, but not as much as they used to. Send Kevin Keys and Jeff Barber e-mails if you do not like the direction. They will listen.

Skillet - "Hero"

Thousand Foot Krutch - "Fire it up"

Both were used during FCS last year's playoffs broadcasted on TV as part of the intro to the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heck they may even get pulled over with pot and cocaine in their car while driving with outstanding warrants and a suspended drivers liscense! That would probably get them kicked out of school!

Dear Jamie Keys,

Thank you so much for working your butt off for the last four years to get good music played at our sporting events. I know how much of a hassle it's been and how many hoops you've had to go through. I also know the process of getting a song approved and trust your judgment because, unlike other people, I've taken the time to actually find out how songs get chosen and the rules behind them. I also know we have people who think the Cha Cha Slide shouldn't be played because it encourages dancing. Those are the people that would create a name on a message board just to complain about a song talking about a party on the rooftop where people are dancing.

Keep up the good work.

Signed,

Me

I wasn't at the game last night, but I find it ironic that were playing that and ABC /ESPN plays Christian music. Their theme song for this year is switchfoot's dark horse and Ive heard other instances. I don't have a problem playing secular songs if the lyrics aren't bad (like rascal flats), but there is good Christian music out there now. Didn't one of the real house wives of NY just leave her husband for one of the Journey guys? Comeon, lets do some research and put some better songs out there.

That's all well & good, SJ. But I stand by my original post. Perhaps the vetting process on lyrics could be reconsidered without blowing up the whole concept.

I guess being an Old Hag and coming from a different era has me out of touch. Sorry if that offends some on here. But I'm just expressing an opinion. I respect the fact that others consider me a prude. I've been called worse.

lol. Nicely done SJ. :clapping

A quick question to those of you who are worried about the music, what would you like to be played during games? Not trying to attack anyone, just wanting to see what you'd be comfortable with.

We all make mistakes. Then again, I'm willing to bet over 75% of the people under the age of 35 didn't know what that song was about. We play that song at our youth gathering nearly every single week. Our kids love it. We were actually going to open our school year off with it and decided at the last minute to do something else. We're going to camp in two weeks and it will be the closing song to our Saturday night dance party.

The amount of vetting that every song goes through will blow your mind. If it made the game on Saturday night then it was approved by 2-3 people.

I've been searching for 10 minutes for the person who accused the athletic department of playing songs that arent approved...that post must have been deleted or something. For whoever said that, OF COURSE THEY ARE APPROVED!

I don't think anyone claimed that we played something that wasn't approved. I was just showing them that things aren't just arbitrarily played. There's a big process that goes into every single song.

See now if they served beer at the games you guys wouldnt notice what songs were being played. That's the obvious solution.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm having a hard time finding a problem with the lyrics to that song. Also, just because it's secular music doesn't necessarily mean it's bad music.

I'm fine with most if not all of the songs and love how the crowd gets into them. It's just so funny for me these days. because when I was in school:

-The campus radio station got shut down for a week because a parent heard us playing Amy Grant's "Secular" song Love Will Find a Way.
-A kid got kicked out for playing Boston's More than a feeling on air
- I got reps for having a Duran Duran Cassette in my desk drawer (yea laugh)

Back to the original point....yeah, I agree HMO. We know how long each break is going to be. Plan ahead, edit the songs effectively, and maximize the entertainment value for each one. I appreciate that a ton of work has been done to get to the point where we're at, but let's do it professionally.

SuperJon, I created this username before the JMU game (not merely to comment about the song tonight, tonight), and I have been following this board for 4-5 years. I am a recent graduate of Liberty University. I think I have a right to express my concern about the music being played at LU sporting events. It does not matter to me whether one person or ten people approved of a particluar song that was played. When there is quality, upbeat Christian music available as Chippy and Jack Sparrow81 have noted, I see no reason why we should be playing songs with questionable lyrics. Royal Tailor, TobyMac, Needtobreathe, The Afters, and Third Day are some more examples of quality, upbeat Christian music.
Jbock, just because kids listen to music like this (and probably worse) does not mean we should play it at sporting events. (On a side note, many of our students do not listen to the type of music that was played at the football game, they prefer Christian music.) Some kids at our school party on the weekends (have sex, drink alcohol, and do drugs). Should we legalize these activities because that is what kids do these days? No! As a Christian university, Liberty should not blend in with the world, it should be set apart.

P.S. I have no problem with the cha cha slide.

Never said that just because kids listen to it makes it acceptable to play LU grad 11. But now that you mention it, what good Christian music is out there that you can use for football? Yeah that's what I thought... not much.

Its like I said, you can disagree with the bands, but there was nothing wrong with the songs played. Except for journey but we've already discussed that.

You have some people who are scared of everything non-christian. I've been there. I used to be that way. But as long as a song doesn't conflict with the core principles of my faith, its okay to listen to. Which means in my opinion, no AC/DC. But its also not my right to infringe on others what I believe.

Third Day at a football game? (gag)
