In Division A
Tennssee 14
South Carolina 11
Florida State Canceled due to Rain
South Florida
Auburn 16
Kenesaw State 5
Tennessee 13
Clemson 8
Wake Forest 8
Central Florida 7
Division B
Scad 24
Alabama 1
Emory 6 at the end of the first quarter. I will update later.
The Citadel 1
This is what I know from being almost 1700 miles away from the SELC. Emory and Scad look to dominate the SELC with Teams like UNC Charlotte, Elon, Davidson and App. State in the chase with Emory and Scad for the Division B Championship.
Furman and The Citadel will win a few. Eckerd College from Florida will be tough. Unless Metallo can really get going Look for Liberty pulling up the rear with Alabama and Southern Virginia in the SELC Divsion B. This just may be a rebuilding year. Scad sure beat the daylights out of Alabama and Emory from what I hear beat up on the Citadel over the weekend. Both Emory and Scad will most likely make it to post season. Eckerd College out of Florida may be the darkhorse.
Pete is right the Team lost a lot of top Players from last year. I refuse to comment on Metallo because he really does have a developmental program to work with for this year. 2004 All American Michael Dean should make a dent for them on Offense. I coached Michael in 04 and 05 and he is a great Player. He is a Native American from Western New York. Michael is coming off surgery on his ACL. They also will feel the loss of Cory Noseworthy. Cory was the SELC Div. B Offensive Player of the year in 2005 with 43 Goals. Cory transfered to Salisbury University in Maryland.
Look for Liberty to be competitive and to play all or most of their games close. Also look for some surprises and upsets. The Scad game in my mind will give me an idea if they will be competitive for the season or have a shoot at the post season.
If this is a rebuilding season for LU Lacrosse it still maybe a positive thing. 2007 and 2008 could pan out to be the best Liberty Lacrosse Teams yet.
Like Pete says Dr. Falwell needs to put more into the Lacrosse Team. If they continue to rebuild and keep bringing in some solid talent over the next two years they will be right back up there with the likes of Elon, Davidson, App. State,Scad,Emory, Eckerd College and UNC Charlotte.
UNC Charlotte is also a very much improved program and will be a hard game for the Flames.
On Division A in the SELC. It looks like Tennessee is making some noise with big wins over South Carolina and Clemson. Auburn looked good in their opener over Kenesaw State and Wake Forest opened with a win over Central Florida. The Florida State game with South Florida was canceled. Florida State has the talent and the financial backing of their School along with good organization and a great Coach and seems destine to go all the way in the Conference. But Tennessee may be there to meet them. Also look for Virginia Tech to be tough and in the chase along with Georgia Tech. Look for disppointing seasons from Florida and Georgia. Clemson will be in the same boat that Liberty is in the division B as a rebuiding season.
Also I don't see a lot this year for Central Florida or South Florida. South Carolina and NC State may be dark horses. Only time will tell for the Wolfpack and Carolina. It sure seems like both programs have improved. But look for East Carolina to come out of the woodwork and suprise some heavy hitters in the Division A.
Those are just my takes on Liberty and the SELC.
All the best,
