This could probably be added to the campus renovations thread, but I saw this on the LU website and thought it was interesting:

Liberty University today officially announced changes to its on-campus food service, which will add new food venues and relocate some existing food venues.

Starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Founder’s Food Court will no longer provide food services in its current location in Green Hall. Founder’s will be relocated to the Tilley Student Center by Friday, Sept. 2.

Founder’s, after being relocated, will feature a food bar buffet with hot and cold items, a Starbucks Café and a Sub Connection. The food bars will include an entrée, side items, desserts and salad options.

The Tilley Student Center will be open to faculty and staff during the day. Students will be able to use their meal points and Flames Cash, and there will be a meal swipe option as well.

A new Food Court will open on the concourse in the Vines Center on Sept. 6. Options will be comparable to those currently offered in Founder’s Food Court. Tables and chairs will be set up around the concourse.

Future plans also call for evening food service to be reinstated at the Campus East Clubhouse, and for improvements to the Keyhole convenience store on the Circle at Dorm 14.

Additional evening food service options will be announced in the near future, including on-campus pizza delivery service and a “to-go” café at Reber-Thomas Dining Hall with an outdoor patio area.

Chancellor and President Jerry Falwell Jr. said the new plan is designed to enhance dining opportunities for the greatly increased student population on main campus while continuing to offer quality food service for students, faculty, and staff at Green Hall.

The plan is also designed to ease congestion at Reber-Thomas Dining Hall and the retail outlets located in and around DeMoss Hall.

These changes are being made in accordance with Liberty’s master plan to shift most of its academic functions to main campus.
So a food court in the Vines Center. I could see that being a complete mess after Convocation. I'm guessing this is a temporary thing.

you would think that and i thought that but the execution was perfect. I got chick-fil-a there today before most people left the building. they had over 150 items of chicken and waffle fries sitting on the racks to be picked up and ate, and 3 registers open. we were moving just as fast getting our food as everyone else was trying to leave.

tables and chairs still sound like a terrible idea. and thankfully i have not seen them in there yet.

Really not that crazy an idea! Just sit there with your chik-fila and watch all the people take down the convo stage

Wondering if they will be open for breakfast...love their chicken biscuit! And their diet lemonade is my 2nd all time favorite drink (next to sweet cider).

it would be nice if they leave it open for basketball games. its a good idea to use those vacant concession areas in the Vines. Put in a domino's express or a taco bell. it would be better than the poor concessions service that LU dining has during games.

Here's a good article LU did on the food court:

http://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=18495&MID=36931

Seems like an innovative temporary solution, and trust LU to get it done in just over a week!

On another topic the article touched on, this new food court in the future library building's going to be massive, from the sounds of it. I was under the impression that it was just going to be a relocated Hangar, but I suppose it'll be more of a combined Hangar and Founder's, since both of those food courts will be gone by the time the new library's done.

Amen to the Taco Bell comment! That was always my dream for the Hangar when I lived on campus!

These food venues in Vines will be open during basketball and volleyball games. Since students get free tickets to all athletic events, they can still come in and eat even if they are not attending the game. Taco Bell and other national chains will be on campus soon in my opinion. If this experiment in Vines goes well, we might make it permanent even after the new library food court is open! Lots of good fast food in Vines might even boost attendance at basketball games since Lynchburg is on the list of "most obese" cities in the nation!

:exactly
Of course, I can remember when I did a project on "Why there should be a Taco Bell in one of the outparcel spots at River Ridge Mall" before there was one anywhere close to campus.

When we were on campus, the closest Taco Bell was in Arlington. I made several runs with my roommate who was craving it after having worked at one through high school. When the one in Madison Heights arrived, he was first in line to apply for a job. That helped keeping me from starving during his employment years.
