I'm trying to figure out who you guys are burning with rage at. The home side is just whoever attends that is not a student. There's nobody to point the finger at here. It was disappointing but nothing to be mad over.

Hats off to the IT guys at LU. I watched the game on the libertychannel.com stream here in the little fishing village of Caleta on the South coast of the DR over a wireless 3g connection from Claro, one of the 2 major providers in the country. Nice picture, and it did not buffer or pixilate one time in the entire 3+ hours. Watched the first half on the laptop, sitting on my balcony overlooking the Carribean, then moved downstairs and hooked up to the big screen for the second half. Life is good!

espn3 feed was great too... except for a 15 min stretch in the 2nd quarter where we had NO audio whatsoever.

came back from commercial and had it back, so who knows

just nice to be able to tune in on a weekend, 400 miles away, and get LU football on TV. Couldnt do that in the 80's/90's

Don't know if it is worth it or not, but could we open a thread to discuss the attendance at the games? What works, what doesn't, options for growth, etc. I am sure the admin has looked at ways from different fronts, but to hear it from some of the seasoned posters to get their perspective might help in some regard, if at least to get it off our chests.
I too, was somewhat concerned of the attendance, especially on the home side, given the amount of exposure the past few weeks to the community on air and in print.

LUconn -

1. Understand that 16,112 showed up in 2009 for our home opener against North Carolina Central in the "old" Williams Stadium.

2. Understand 15,800 showed up last night in a renovated Bill for the 2011 home opener against a 2010 playoff team that beat us last year.

If that dooes not anger you I would question your understanding of what Liberty is trying to do here.

TO ALL - If you know of anyone who skipped our game to watch UVA or Tech...you need to step up and give them some serious grief about it, and I mean really make them think twice about doing it again.

UVA IS AWFUL, barely beating a horrid Indiana team who lost to Ball State.
So...

Liberty > Ball State
Ball State > Indiana
Indiana = UVA
Liberty > UVA

Any questions?

I hate to say it, but I had to leave with 3 minutes left cause I have to be at work at 4am  I will be forgoing sleep to stay for all of the JMU game however.

I was very impressed being in the student section, they stayed for 4 quarters. I really hope it keeps up.and once again, I really thank the AD for really putting our facilities over the top. There's so much great growth happening here. Its truly exciting. I almost wish I had more years at LU to see all that will happen. Perhaps I should think about becoming a professional student? :D

I think we may finally have a defense that is playoff caliber. Looking forward to seeing this team develop. I am not worried about the offense. As long as we can limit the turnovers we will be in every game the rest of the way.

Time to make a statement and thump JMU. Win big games and the stadium will stay full.

I believe we have someone on this board who has that profession on his resume. perhaps he can offer some sage advice in the matter. 8)

Attendance was sad....Students outstanding job!!
Our defense is SICK!
Offense will come, it seems to always take a game or two to really get going. Got to try not to kill Mike Brown. Agree with jcmanson. No body with any kind of run game at all has backs that only have 10 carries between them. I bet if you look at SBU's RB carries they have more that 15 a piece and they run as good as anyone in the BSC. And if thats not who we are any more without Rashad then thats ok. Maybe we should just accept being a passing offense now and go with. Sling it down the field and let Mike make some people miss on his designed runs. Its gonna be a great year either way. Cant wait to beat JMU!!

i think we may have had more people at the JMU game in a monsoon then we had for the home opener here. unbelievable. i think us students made up well over half the total attendance number tonight.

we haven't played football long enough to be suffering from the old fans dying, have we?

edit -- didn't see a new thread open (or an old thread bumped up again) until after i posted this.

we have an amazing defense. i don't think the big south outside of stony brook and costal combined will score more than 30 points on us this year.

I gotta say that one thing I saw struck me...one of the RMU players, #9, (ORMC could chime in if he doesnt mind swinging back through) while LU was at midfield was by himself kneeling by the goal line, and it looked like he was praying. I think that its so cool that he still prays no matter if they win or lose. Another guy that saw it said it was a pretty classy gesture on his part

props to the students for showing up in force and hanging in for the entire game. The 4QF campaign seems to be payign early dividends thus far. I am disappointed with the baptist side attendance, but its nothing to be mad about. I do agree it shoudl have been better as UVA and VT were on the road, but it is what it is. Great atmposhere outside of the stadium with the tailgating, things continue to get better.

As far as the game, our defense is really playing well. I think this could be the difference for us for a deep run in the playoffs. Offensively, we knew going in that the O-Line was the question mark, and they have done well in spurts, and I feel like they are getting better each week. we improved slightly on penalties 6-50 vs. 7-71, fumbles to fumbles lost 2-1 vs. 4-3, mike brown 0-INT's vs. 3, and 0 sacks vs. 4. so i would say we are improving. Obviously a tough test with JMU coming to town, but a game we can win.

My question....twice RMU had the ball on 3rd down, did not make the first down and both times were flagged for Illegal Man Downfield...and both times DR accepted the penalty???? Now...both times it worked out, but why are we giving them another chance? Both times it was 3rd and really long, but you are setting yourself up for a Pass Interference penalty and giving them a 1st down...just make them punt the first time!!!

As an old timer who has general admission season tickets on the Baptist side, I peaked into the high priced 3rd level red seats, and they were almost totally empty, as were the medium priced red seats on the lower level. But the students spilled over onto the Baptist side last night. I hadn't heard so much yelling and screaming on that side in my life. I'm just glad they were behind me, so they weren't blocking my view. 8)

Prediction--next week will be a sell out (the good news); the bad news is that several thousand in attendance will be JMU students and alumni. Several JMU alums in my church have already said they will be showing up--wearing their purple. :vomit

IMO the reason we don't use the RB's more is because they have contributed very little to nothing for a long time. Holloway shouldn't be playing at all in my opinion. He is too easy to bring down and not fast enough to avoid tackles otherwise. He has had plenty of time to prove he is capable and so far has shown virtually nothing. AA seems to be coming around a bit and should be the feature back to see if we can get him going. The kid that had the long run towards the end of the game looked good, but it wasn't against their first team. MB can't continue to be our best running option for his own physical well being.
I find it interesting that we haven't used some of the plays I have seen in the past, ie. bubble screen. Maybe we are saving some of those for later?
Students were super last nigh, VERY PROUD!!!!! I expected more from the Baptist side, but hopefully that will come. Game atmosphere is great, had a good time.
I would encourage everyone to join the Flames Club at the highest level you can swing. The club level food and seating is well worth the investment. People give 5-10 times as much money at big universities and not get that kind of game experience.

Glad you could join us, jbock (as long as you don't stand in front of me). I can usually be found above the 20 yard line, leaning up against that nice cool, concrete wall. My buddy even caught 2 T-shirts up there last night.

For those of you not in attendance, LU now has this gatling gun that "shoots" T-shirts. LIke this, but ours is better.

Did that thing actually shoot anything out other than smoke? I never saw any shirts come out of it.

I agree! My family is enjoying Club Level seating for a second season and it's great! Bob, Doug and the rest of the staff make sure everyone's experience is first class. Our father comes with us and older fans enjoy the priority parking, elevators and easy access rest rooms. We all enjoy the pre-game meal, while watching the teams warm up. Saturday night drinks and snacks were available for the entire game, a big hit! You don't have to worry about the weather forecast either!! The Club Level crowd Saturday seemed larger than last year but there's room for a lot more.

Manson, when we shoot red shirts (at a high rate of speed) toward people already wearing red shirts, it's understandably very difficult to see.
