Apparently so. At first I was upset, but if they continue to step up enforcement, it should help with parking. I guess they are trying to increase people taking the bus or carpooling.

Staff have not had to pay to park, at least for the past four years. I think that faculty did though.

Yeah, Staff never had to pay, but now they do. My wife works there, but the paying for parking is not the only thing. Apparently, that huge lot behind campus north is now only for Thomas Road people. So not only does staff have to pay, but also way fewer spaces and a much longer walk.

As much as it sucks, and if I still worked there I'd probably be ticked at first, if you take the bus you don't have to pay. If you work downtown of any city, you always have to pay for your parking. It seems a little out of place at Liberty, but I don't know how other schools handle this, so it might be pretty standard. The only thing that irks me a little is that the staff at LU has always gotten the shortest end of the stick, with regard to just about everything. HR really needs to work on changing that.

I have a feeling as the campus continues its reformation in regard to layout with more greenspace replacing parking lots, this will become more pronounced. I have paid for parking at nearly every job I have ever had since leaving Lynchburg.

Yep, I pay for parking in downtown Roanoke, and I know state employees in Richmond typically pay to park in state-owned parking lots there.

My girlfriend has to pay for parking at the hospital she works at and then, if she works on a Saturday that UT is playing, she isn't even allowed to park in the lot she pays for.

Before all of the staff start complaining, almost every university requires their staff to pay to park. I contacted some of my counterparts at other colleges and universities and this is pretty cheap. One lady I know pays $800 a year to park at UNC Chapel Hill. The spaces that the university is losing by TRBC are being moved to the old student entrance at Green Hall, by the Post Office.

My parking costs $295/mo. But the company pays it for us senior guys. Young guys have to pay or bus it. Most bus it.

What people dont realize (especially people who would complain about this) is that you pay one time and then youre covered for the whole school year...its not like you are gonna be paying monthly for it or anything.

Parking is bad enough as it is. Granted, I don't mind the walk, I usually just park at David's Place and walk to either North or DeMoss. Don't confuse me with those commuter kids who are just upset that they can't park right by the door of their classroom.

Also, why does TRBC need the extra parking space in North campus? During the weekdays, I'm not sure why 1. Its such a big deal, and 2, surely there's enough space nearby.

But I'm also sick of this junk about "its easy to car pool or ride the bus.". This redneck has never used a bus. We use cars. Or walk where we need to go. We're Americans.

But more important, I don't think I can bus or car pool my 44 mile trip to LU each way for classes?

You are definitely misinformed. First, the TRBC parking lots are used for the ever growing LCA. By 8:15 there are no spots in the front of the church and much of the lot below is full. Between commuting students, staff, faculty, and guests, the lots are very full. Now consider this: twice a week there are women's ministries with more than 200 involved. There are also conferences, visitors and funerals to consider. I don't know if someone else with better numbers can chime in, but my wife tells me that there are more than 700 staff members who work at Green Hall (North Campus).

This semester, the seminary is moving to "Towns Hall." Most undergrad classes which were previously held in Green Hall have been moved to the newly renovated DeMoss Hall. Hopefully this will make things better. I don't know how many spots are being added, compared to how many are being taken away. Time will tell if things are better or not.

One reason to separate TRBC from Liberty's parking is to have better enforcement of the rules. It is difficult to tow a car when that car may be a legitimate guest to the church. Of course, now the church has to figure out how to keep LU people out.
