This team doesn't look that tough... fairly new/young players in key positions.... no "super" power positions or ALL American Offensive powers... "first game" advantages I'd have to give to LU, and coaching - I don't like Obrian... I also like LU's skill positions better but NCS should be a solid all around team, especially the line.
LU will have to go to its strength, the line will be the key, if we can play even up on the line, LU can win, if we have to change our game because of the line we lose our advantage.
Having a new offense line for this game = worry. Passing against a D that is playing pass isn't fun.

The other obstacle is intimidation. The NCS stadium and fans will rattle the focus of the LU players. It is intimidating for a FCS school not use to that size, while NCS will feed off it...
LU needs to be prepared, and walk into that stadium ready to DOMINATE everyone and anyone, and if they do get down in points, don't let it shake them - keep fighting...
NCS could easily lose focus (especially if they start to win early) and/or get frustrated and fall apart or give up ...
They also need some fans in their corner.

I wasnt meaning to jump on him manson, I was just stating the fact that youre gonna have a good percentage of the players who likely will see the field for this game will be used to playing in a huge stadium because they were part of the WVU game two years ago so that wont be as intimidating a factor...and jbock thank you for being a total d-----...oh and just for the record its 3-1...not 17-0...(since you decided to throw that in jbock...)

Anyway, this game (if we win) could set the course for a magical season, and even if we lose, but play well (as the guys have shown in the majority of games against FBS teams in the last four seasons), itll give us confidence going into the rest of our non-conference schedule. Russell Wilson was the vast majority of their offense last year and with that gone, that should make it easier to key on the running game and force Glennon and the passing game to carry the day.

Our run defense will definitely have to be up for the test all season long. Pretty confident in our defensive secondary, but if the D-line & LB's don't put pressure on the QB and stop the run, then it doesn't matter how good your secondary is.

I'd also really like to see Holloway, Allen and the rest of the RB's really set the tone early showing a solid running game. I'm very excited to see what kind of a season Holloway will have this year. He has a ton of potential to have a great season. Also, we all know Brown can't afford to be the type of runner he was last year.

I agree with this part right here...you know that everybody is going to want to focus on Asa (probably with a double team) so we are going to need the other linemen and LBs to make plays in stopping the run. If we can get guys like Connolly, Fath, Griffiths, Brent Vinson, Ward, Gunn, Varol and others making a lot of drops in the backfield, and we dont allow those big plays over the middle (especially from the TE), not many teams will be able to score on this defense I would venture.

Glennon tops list of questions for Wolfpack

N.C. State begins practice for its fifth football season under coach Tom O'Brien today, arguably in the program's best position since quarterback Philip Rivers' senior season eight years ago.

The Wolfpack is coming off a 9-4 season and its first finish in the national rankings since the 2002 season (Rivers' junior campaign).

The big question for the Wolfpack, as it has been since Russell Wilson walked off the field as the MVP of N.C. State's 23-7 Champs Bowl win over West Virginia, is about the quarterback situation.

I too thought originally that it probably would be a 14+ spread, but looking at the teams/players, I'd have to say now that it should be pretty close. To me, it all depends on the O Line.

This basically sums up the whole season imo not just NCState and to a lesser extent the LB's.

state fans are rowdier than WVU fans IMO, i have been to both stadiums plenty of times, but our guys will not be intimidated at all. I think we will keep it close but probaably lose between 10-14 pts. I agree with the other posters about the O-line being the key for the entire season. Bottom line is we will show up in raleigh and play hard. The guys expect to win and the coaching staff prepares them that way.

Its good that you caught on to what I was getting at No Fear (unlike manson apparently), I think the experience there will help when they go into Carter-Finley (which is actually a smaller stadium than Mountaineer Field-Milan Puskar Stadium, though not by much). There may be a couple players who would be new to that kind of atmosphere but not many.

I do think we have reached a consensus among the members of the board that the O-Line probably is the biggest key for the season. They pretty much make the running game go, and if the running game goes, they keep our defense off the field, and in so doing, keeps them from wearing down late in games and thus making ill timed mental mistakes

It will be interesting to see if the new recruit Grant Jones will be able to contribute as a freshman this year. I believe he was ranked in the top 100 in the country last year, and he was big - like 340 pounds...
