I do agree with you guys that NC State is more talented. I think JMU having 3 future NFLers is subjective because they might never play a down. I think Liberty is a little deeper than Sweaty gives us credit for. We have a two possible Preseason POY's playing QB and WR. Our backup QB could play anywhere in the BS, Patriot, and probably for a few CAA and Socon teams and start. Most offensive and defensive categories we are deep with the exception of LB and OL.

FIFY

Brennan is better than people realize, and better than he gets credit for. Unfortunately for him, he has one of the best QB's in the nation playing in front of him.

talent is not the issue. we look like a real football team when we line up on the field now. A few years back we looked small and non-athletic. I dont know how in the world you can think Lehigh or RMU have even close to the talent we do. Joe Walton even said last year it was a gigantic test for them to see if they could compete with a team like liberty. That pretty much means he believes he is the underdog. JMU's defense is great but there offense was inept last year. I have multiple friends that are big JMU fans and after watching the games the last 2 years they all admit were right there with them in talent if not slightly better. We have just been making a few mental mistakes here and there that have crushed us...mainly in late game blown pass coverages.

AWESOME ! Welcome Ryan !!!!

We're glad you are transfering to Liberty, and wish you much success with the Flames !!!!

PS: I don't know if you'll start, or play second string, or wide reciever, or be the best DB ever... but I am glad you are here... Just come to WIN !

Ok....Here's the deal.....Ayers should be an insta-start. I don't need to see this guy for 1 second to know he is good enough to sit Kajuan Lee on the bench where he will be pickin splinters the rest of the season. Sorry Kajuan....I know Kajuan and he aint no AYERS !!! (fo sho)

I think Roccgroh has reincarnated...FF4E, one thing you need to know about Coach Rocco (which apparently is lost on you judging by the tenor of your posts so far) is that he has way too much respect for seniors that have been in the program and for the investment that they put in to simply bench them just because some hot shot transfers in. Walt Aikens is probably going to start for us come this fall but he put the work in the spring, and so he is being rewarded for the work he put in. He would be going totally against his own philosophy if he just put Ayers in the starting lineup without having seen anything from him on the practice field, especially compared to the other DBs we have on the roster.

I agree, how could you make a statement like that? have you ever played football? according some people here we should just replace our D back field with the track team and Ta Da ! we win...
Seriously... thats way out there... not to mention you slamming a sr. you were depending on until acouple days ago... I don't know either of them, but thats what try outs and practice is for.
If your saying, just because you started last year, your position is not gauranteed, I agree. But you better bring the entire package...

On a side note from debating whether Rocco should start him on talent vs. experience/proving himself, here's a thought. I highly doubt Ayers is coming to Liberty to finish his college career. He was offered scholarships from Alabama, Arkansas, South Carolina and several other big name programs. So, he is most likely transferring here so that he doesn't have to sit a year somewhere else. Thus, this kid wants to play football or he would have just went to Bama already. I'm thinking Rocco already told him he had a great chance to play here for the next year and that's why he picked Liberty. I mean do you honestly think a kid with this type of talent has enough respect for Liberty to be willing to sit out a year? I love Liberty but we are in no position to pass on a kid like this. My prediction is that he starts this year, becomes a big name among Liberty athletics and then transfers to a big program next year.

Seth Curry is that you? But in all seriousness, youd be hard pressed to find a player transferring more than once in football as opposed to basketball. Im guessing that he will stick around. If he tries to transfer again he'd probably have to sit out a year regardless.

If this kid transfers from LU to Alabama, or any other FBS, he'd have to sit a year. He's already used his redshirt year so that would cost him a year of eligibility. And there's no doubt he can get to the NFL, if that's his goal, through the FCS.

1) No one said he won't play. Only thing is some people would like him to at least go to a practice first before we give him the boundary corner spot. 2) Do you think that him having a previous great relationship with one of the strength coaches had anything to do with him coming here? 3) I'm not sure why we would pass on this kid (that would be dumb)

+1

Sweat - you completely contradicted yourself. You said he obviously wants to play football, but then will transfer... what? No. That would completely defeat the purpose of him wanting to play football.

He'd basically be committing career suicide if he transferred again after coming here for a year...NFL scouts will look at that and will probably would shy away from him even as an undrafted free agent (which would be a couple years down the road but many scouts have minds like elephants...they wont forget that kind of stuff).

I can come up with a good one once in a while...but Im sure if you asked a scout, they could tell you stories about players they've looked at

This kid has grown up around Liberty football. He's known about Liberty since 2003 or so. He's known about Rocco since the first day that he got on campus. He came to our camps in high school even while knowing he was very likely going to a major FBS school. For whatever reason things didn't work out at GT. He left and went to a place that was comfortable and where he had family around. Yes, he has the potential to be a great player, but sometimes people choose where to play based on more than which team plays under the brightest lights.

Yeah, if you all seriously think him transferring again hurts his career, then you're completely forgetting about Cam Newton. Went to Florida, transferred to a juco, then transferred to Auburn. He won a national championship, a heisman trophy...oh and by the way, he was the number one draft choice. I'm not contradicting myself. He transferred to LU because he wants to play THIS season. He'll transfer again because next year he'll be good enough to play at almost any FBS program. Sooo many players do this, I can't believe you guys would be so ignorant to think this kid will be an exception. If he doesn't start it ought to be because he proved himself worthy of not starting, it shouldn't be because he didn't prove himself worthy to start. To me this kid is guilty of being a starter until he proves himself innocent. The reason I'm so hyped up over this is because this kid gives us an excellent secondary while Lee gives us just a really good secondary. If I were the coach of JMU, I would much rather have my #2 receiver being gaurded by Lee than I would Ayers.

Example? Just 1? From FBS to FCS back to FBS.

cjsweat is an enthusiastic poster and the more of those we can add to our stable the better. But obviously in this case a newbie is learning a few details about the ins & outs of NCAA Division football that are indisputable. If our new corner wishes to transfer again, he'll have to drop down to DII or NAIA. The greatest threat to him leaving us early is if he suddenly dominates as a Flame and he chooses to enter the draft early. I think all of us could live with that unlikely but plausible scenario. Of course another possibility is that he simply doesn't mesh with the LU lifestyle. Frankly I anticipate him playing for the Flames for years to come and hopefully having a significant impact as we rack up playoff wins while transitioning to an FBS league. Hey, if we are going to talk hypotheticals let's make it worth our while.

That football senario sounds like the exprience Marshall Univ. had with Randy Moss. I like it! :football

The guys are right sweat...and unless you can produce some names of players who have transferred from an FBS to an FCS BACK to an FBS, your point can be (as they say on Mythbusters) "thoroughly busted".
Are we back?

Nice! Here is to hoping we can live bot free.
