If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

I'm not shocked that he got fired, but I'm just surprised at the timing. A month before the season, and no new evidence has come out. So, why wait a year to fire him?

There was talk on the unc rival board, that his phone records are not readily available to the public like they said they would be. Not sure if that is true or not. But I expected him to be fired but I would have thought they would have done it at the end of the season. UNC shot itself in the foot.

Apparently there may also be more heads on the chopping block at UNC. The timing could not have been much worse for the football team however.

It will be interesting to see who UNC will interview for future football HC. Some on the UNC rivals talk about high profile coaches like Tressel or Rodriquez, etc. I don't see UNC bringing in HC with any baggage since they said they let Davis go to save their academic reputation.
With that said they bloggers think they will go with a HC from a small school or conference with a clean record. My first thought was Coach Rocco.

It's been known for years that he would probably be retiring after this year. That's nothing new to Carolina fans and isn't because of this investigation.

I am thinking more of after our season Rocco could be on a list of candidates for UNC

Come on, guys. UNC knew it was rolling the dice with a guy of dubious repute when they hired Davis. Now that the revelations are coming on a regular basis this isn't much of a surprise at all.

I highly doubt UNC hires a permanent coach until January.

As a Tar Heels fan, I agree with everything you said. They knew what they were getting with Davis and were willing to take the risk. It obviously didn't work out and has cost the program years of progress. Hopefully they can get somebody who is a character guy when they finally get around to hiring a replacement.

I always liked Withers when I used to interview in Austin. The players loved him. It sucks he'll be given his opportunity under these circumstances.

(A.D.'s feel the heat on this stuff as well)

Now, from Long Beach Press Telegram writer Vincent Bonsignore, (Tuesday, Nov 29, 2011) regarding UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero and his next hire:

"The next one is on you, Dan Guerrero, so make it count."
"You've done a lot of fabulous things as athletic director at UCLA, but to say you've failed miserably on your football coaching hires would be an understatement."

"I'm not really sure how many athletic directors survive two critical mistakes on a decision of this magnitude, but it's safe to say you probably won't be around to get a fourth chance if this one doesn't do the trick."

"Only if this one fails, UCLA will be looking to hire an athletic director in addition to a new football coach three or four years from now. So this one is on you, Dan."
