This has probably been talked about before on here but I'm new and curious. The Big-East looks poised to become a 12 team conference in the next five years and that should bump Liberty to the next level. Here's what I think the Big-East could/should do that could affect Liberty.

First, we know that TCU is joining next year and Villanova is supposed to join but is having some issues. That would bring the conference to ten teams. I think that if the Big-East makes the push for a 12 team conference, they're definitely picking up UCF. The question is, who will be the 12th team? I know that the Big-East has some connections in Virginia because of the Hokies past success in that conference. It would be a great move to invite a Liberty or JMU into the conference (not likely but I'll keep wishing). I could really see Houston or Kentucky joining the conference because of the rivalries they bring. Both Houston and Kentucky would bring big markets and both would be instantly competitive. If that happens, the C-USA would be two teams short of 12 and the SEC would be one. We know the SEC would never bother with an FCS school but could look into a C-USA school. Of course the C-USA would be three teams short at this point.

This is where I see Liberty's chance to make the move. The C-USA could develop some nice rivalries and markets with JMU, Liberty and Appalachian State. Most everyone knows that high-school recruits in Virginia are the next best thing to FL, TX and CA. So, I think the C-USA would love to pick up some VIrginia teams and we all know how good App. St. is.

I guess the real question is do any of you guys want Liberty to move up and do we have the resources to do so. Thoughts?

PS: I'm super bored at work and school doesn't start for another month. So, please solve my dilemna and reply. haha.

Not to be rude or anything, but it's fun to engage in these crazy hypotheticals during the summer months.

Maybe someday we could play the University of Guadalajara in football! :football :football :football

Ok, that was fun and all and we all hope to see Liberty move up some day but IMO you lost all credibility by even mentioning a SEC school would leave and go to the Big East. Yes its Kentucky who is generally at the bottom half of the conference but lets be serious. Do you have any idea how much money is involved in being in that conference, let alone the history and tradition that come with it.....UCF maybe, but Kentucky....thats like saying Georgia is going into the Sunbelt. I'm new to this board and don't post much but sometimes the logic in some of the topics is comical.

I would agree with you on every team except Kentucky. UK doesn't even feel like an SEC team. They're really good in basketball, and they don't really care about baseball. Despite having a growing football program, they're still not investing in it. I would bet that UK would gladly accept an offer to the Big East. You get the Louisville, WV, Cinnciatti rivalries. It's a much more prestigious basketball conference and UK could be an instant competitor in football. I still doubt it would happen but it would make sense for both the Big East and Kentucky.

Your right...the WV, Louisville, Cincinati rivalries are WAYYY bigger than the Tennesse, Georgia, LSU rivalries...plus lets be honest Big East basketball money doesn't even come close to comparing to SEC football money and the first thing that would happen in football is attendance would plummet. Gotta remember its all about the dollar signs to administrators. And even though Kentucky doesn't get the best football recruits in the SEC now I can guarantee you the talent pool would drop tremendously in football. Just having the SEC logo on your jersey is good enough for some kids out there. Who and where would you rather play against...WV becomes your biggest road game in front of 55K or travel to Gainesville and play in front of 92k on national TV. No legitimate logic in your thought process at all.

I was just wondering, do any of you think out there that Stephen F. Austin could possibly join the Big East for football? (sarcasm).

Monterrey Tech had football up until the violence started getting overwhelming which scared off so many students. Monterrey Tech would play exhibition games against Texas HS & JUCO teams every season.

And I am with SumItUp ... the Arkie fans around me always felt more of a connection to the Texas schools than the rest of the SEC outside of Baton Rouge.

I would also like note that Arkansas is an expansion school to the SEC. So, their ties to the conference aren't the same as Alabama or Florida.
