Andrew Cordasco
6' 5" 220 lbs Tight End
Jamestown (VA) High School via University of Virginia

UVa Profile

DailyPress.com wrote:Jamestown's Cordasco to leave U.Va. for football scholarship at Liberty

Former Jamestown High football star Andrew Cordasco is leaving the football program at the University of Virginia to accept a scholarship at Liberty University.
Cordasco, 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, redshirted at Virginia as a freshman this past season as preferred walk-on tight end. But the ranks at tight end are crowded at Virginia, so he said that when coaches suggested he give center or long-snapper a try, he asked if he could look at other schools.
Cordasco said that Liberty, which had offered him a scholarship while he was in high school, needed a tight end and offered again. He accepted and will look to break into the Flames' lineup this fall.

Wow, those are Eric Green numbers.

Medic may soon be starting another man-crush, because we know how much he loves a TE.

This certainly adds an interesting dynamic to the TE situation. Shaver was pretty much written into the starting TE spot coming out of spring practice. Id guess that he will be #2 on the depth chart at TE but I am sure he will get a chance to earn that #1 spot or at the very least see if he can be that second TE in two tight formations

If he can catch that certainly will add an interesting dynamic to the passing game, although Shaver certainly can catch, he showed that the latter part of the year last year

dont know much about him but i like his size. I find this a bit interesting because UVA is crowded at TE this year but it's a little thin after this year. I think Tommy is pretty entrenched as the starter this year but this kid could be a solid backup and 3 year starter if he pans out. He would be another heck of a target for our QB's

Eric Green type numbers....aren't Shaver and Wilkes bigger or as big as that. Shaver showed he can catch latter in the season....were you not at the JMU game, he was the whole passing game and it was early in the year. Some of these post are just odd sometimes.

Tommy had 8 catches for 104 yards for the entire season with more than his fair share of dropped passes. While yes he did have 3 catches for 57 against JMU, he dropped the game-tying touchdown. Let's not try to pretend he was setting the world on fire last season. Cordasco may or may not be better than Shaver. Time will tell. I just know that the more catching options for TE, the better.

Based on his UVa profile, he sounds like a great fit for us in more ways than just football:
participated in a 10 day mission trip to Nicaragua ... volunteered for highway clean up ... volunteer leader of a middle school youth group

NG is right...he will come in and have a chance to unseat Tommy for the #1 TE position in a few weeks. Itll be interesting to see how good of a blocker he is as well.

Tommy dropped a few passes in the first 3 or 4 games, then had a great game at JMU. If your looking for huge receiving numbers from the TE's in our offense your barking up the wrong tree. Our receiving corp is so deep and there are so many Mike Brown designed runs and then plays thrown in for the regular running backs that TE is not going to have a ton of chances for balls. TE is key in the red zone when the other teams really key on Summers and Brown.

Ok, so he had 8 catches on the year and 3 at JMU early in the year. I think 3 is almost half of 8. SO, its not like he waited until the "latter" part of the year to become a viable reciever. We are talking about a redshirt freshman Walk On at UVA (not exactly a football power, but I know some of us act like we should beat the packers or its a bad season) coming in to "unseat" a senior starter who has been a huge part of the program in alot of areas. If he does then we are better but lets not get carried away.

I don't really think anyone's getting carried away. We just got a transfer (albeit a redshirted walk-on) from UVA, and many are hoping he can contribute at some point in his LU career. Will he unseat Shaver? Most likely not. Could he be a viable option later on in his time at LU? Hopefully.

By the way welcome to flamefans uschen11! Always nice to have new people on the board.
