I think this is Jersey Mikes vs Fat Tuna. Fat Tuna has some really great items and a really good tuna melt. Jersey Mikes has regular subs with top quality ingredients. Even if you get just get a turkey sandwich it's probably the best regular turkey sandwich you'll ever eat. Every other place on this list has a few good sandwiches but I think they pale in comparison.

Yes, I had the pulled pork from Subway this week. I got it from the Subway inside Walmart on Old Forest Road and asked the girl making it if it was tomato-based or vinegar-based (she had NO idea what I was talking about, and then she asked what kind of CHEESE I wanted on it).

Let's just say that I was pleasantly surprised with how good the sandwich tasted--and it was tomato based BBQ, so you NC folks may not like it. I added onions for crunch and flavor. For whatever reason, it tasted remarkably like a McDonald's McRib sandwich. I'd give it a B- and say it's definitely worth a try, if you like the taste of a McRib.

I went with Quiznos.

ChikfilA is great, but I wouldn't consider it a great "sandwich" place.
Can't stand tuna, so why would I go somewhere called Fat Tuna?
Ate at firehouse once, got sick, never going back.
Jersey Mike's is decent.
Macado's isn't bad.
Subway is horrible.
Never been to Yellow sub.

Jimmy John's is where it's at.

Manson, Yellow Sub is definitely worth a try, if you can find it. It's a 1/4 block off Old Forest Road, near the new Walmart. I love their corned beef subs.

Yellow Sub used to be the only place within 50 miles that you could get a pastrami sandwich until Macados moved in. I love pastrami. Pastrami is the most sensuous of all the salted meats.

Yellow Sub's "#5--Red October" sub has corned beef AND pastrami (and they make mine like a reuben with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing). Best sub sandwich in all of Lynchburg!
My only complaint about Yellow Sub: NO sweet tea. :frustrated

And it's locally owned, not a chain. MENU: http://www.yellow-subva.com/menu.html

No love for West Side Deli. Of course, that may be because it's now owned and run by the same people who run the Chinese place next door. Not really authentic anymore.

I can't remember the name, but there's that new deli on Main St, right next to Market On Main. It's not bad, and much higher quality than most of the other choices on the list.

Fat Tuna wins this one, though.

Jon ... Fat Tuna has a lot of options, not just tuna. Big fan of their Big Dipper -- thinly sliced roast beef with onions and peppers served on a bagel with au jus to dip in. Also, their chicken salad melt is fantastic.

that new place on main st. is Catalano's Delicatessen. good food, and in the price range of panera, maybe a bit more. fat tuna is also opening up downtown as well. there is also a place called Georgia's Subs which is owned by the yellow sub people. same type of subs that are really good.

Yellow Sub. By Local!! With some other Yellow Sub love notes, why no votes?
Jersey Mike's has better coupons though. Makes their rather high (IMO) prices more tolerable.
Is V and T still next to Bulls? They have one of the better Chicken Salad sandwiches/pitas. Although Bulls has THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD around. I enjoy their melt and the chicken salad salad!

The cheapest way for a couple to eat at Jersey Mike's is to order giants with the $2 off coupon which comes regularly through their email program. Also, if you regularly get a stamp when you order, you can get a free sandwich every now and then.

Geeze. I am getting hungry for a Teriyaki Chicken Cheesesteak - no onions, extra peppers.

Proto, they totally remodeled the place earlier this summer. You wouldn't even recognize the place from the inside--new tables, new walls and paint, flat screen TVs--it's gorgeous! And still the best sub sandwiches in town.
