LOL. My "cousin in law" stayed there last night, and paid $115! Rip Off. I guess it was because they had a dog. At least they didn't get shot. :)

At the risk of being ridiculed, I have to throw in a vote for the Extended Stay America just across the street from the Lahaye Center. Decided to try it this weekend after reading very good reviews and getting the $63 Liberty rate and it has been exactly as advertised. Clean, walking distance to campus, beds not plush but doable, extremely economical. Not the place you want to go for the once a year vacation, but in situations where you are frequenting the area regularly and you need to stay on a budget, this hotel makes sense. The desk clerk said they may be renegotiating for next year but the double is $63 and a single is only $53 - hard to beat and again, maybe I got lucky this time, but the rooms and lobby areas are satisfactorily clean.

I have stayed there, and you are right. No frills, but it's economical and works. I have been spoiled, however, by a stay at Craddock Terry. The rooms are as nice as any I have ever stayed in, and the breakfast that comes in a shoebox is cooler than it sounds. The hotel runs specials frequently so it's not that out of line price-wise.

I've started doing my fair share of traveling the past 3 years or so, not just in L-burg, but around the mid-Atlantic, and when it comes to the chain hotels it's hard to beat the Spring Hill Suites in L-burg. Very clean, new, great friendly staff, good location, solid price.

If you're voting for Wingate you need to stay somewhere else and then revisit this category.

I would put them in this order:
1. Carter Glass
2. Spring Hill Suites
3. HGI
4. all others

* I've never stayed at Craddock Terry

I stayed there a couple years ago, not even on my dime, and it's terrible. I vowed I'd never stay there again and I haven't.

what was so terrible about it? Just curious. I have heard nothing but good things about it considering the price.

Also I hate when people say something is terrible and don't explain why its terrible.

We have stayed at Extended Stay America the two homecoming we attended. We found it clean and nice and loved the fact we could walk across the road to a football game, hockey game, or anyplace on campus we wanted to be.

Outside of their great view, they have nothing notable.
Indoor pool and LOCATION.

Ok, I can go along with your indoor pool reference. Although its not a factor for me since when I'm in Lburg I've got so much to do/see I don't have time for a pool. And their location isn't any better than Extended Stay, Super 8, HGI, Spring Hill Suites, etc., etc.

To be honest with you, I can't exactly remember. It was 5-6 years ago and the wife and I made the statement to one another about never staying there again. The next time we stayed at the Super 8 and made the same statement.

yeah the Super 8 is terrible. Just stayed there and right away I knew it was bad. the lobby was hot as can be and then when I tried to get into my room I couldn't. So instead of just putting us in a different room what does the guy do?? Brings out a hammer to get the door open...no lie. He then banged the door frame a bit and "fixed" it. It was the only pet friendly hotel within 20 miles without a weight limit so I had little I could do, but that was terrible. The bed was old and sagging and it was just an all around terrible stay.

One thing I learned on this trip...never bring my dog on a long road trip again. It was nice having him with us when we were in PA with my wife's family but the hotels we had to stay at because of him just ruined the rest of the trip...terrible

yeah but the only friends with a house and is dog friendly were expecting a baby any day so didn't want to leave him with them and it was cheaper to bring him with us, but next time around I will spend a little extra though

I think they have a better breakfast than the SHS.
They do have a better breakfast; however, SHS breakfast is continental whereas the typical HGI breakfast is extra.

I'm not diamond level with HHonors but I stay regularly at all of the above mentioned options. And frankly, they all seem to be mimicking each other these days. Frankly the best breakfast I've had lately was at the Holiday Inn Express in Lander, WY (shout-out to SJ on his current mission trip) a couple of weeks ago. And I say that as someone who gets complimentary breakfasts at the Westin in Dallas that I stay at every couple of weeks.
