It is interesting that you would bring up Evernote. After dabbling with it in the past, I am starting to utilize it more recently. Their Android app was recently upgraded making it more practical. But they still want to upsize you to a pay account that I haven't been able to justify yet.

The ability to upload a gig worth of PDF's and have them searchable was worth the $5/mo Not to mention they give you a email address. So I have my Gmail filter set up to anytime I receive an attachment it automatically fwd's to Evernote so I'll always have it. So USEFUL.

I'm thinking about getting a tablet and see that Apple has a refurbished iPad WiFi 16gb (1st gen) for $349. I like the idea of sticking w/ Apple since the wife and I have iPhones and wouldn't have to buy as many new apps. Would I be fine buying the 1st gen or would I be better off paying $150 more for the iPad 2? For my needs, I think 16gb would be enough as I'd mostly be using it as a web browser/media player and wouldn't be storing too many large files. I also wouldn't need 3G as I'd be using it primarily at home or places where WiFi is available. I thought I'd check to see what you guys think. Thanks.

Competition is coming. Anyone been to Best Buy or Walmart lately to check out the tablets? There aren't any. You'll find the iPad, some Acer tablet, and the Xoom if you're lucky. And honestly there currently aren't any options out there that are really that great, including the iPad.

Anyone jumped in and replaced their computer with a tablet yet? I can't even imagine it until there's one available with the suite of Microsoft Office products. If I can't create an Excel/Word/PP document from scratch, it's not worth much to me. And I'd also wait until they're fully able to integrate with an entire entertainment system wirelessly.

Oh, and by the way, in exactly one week Touchpad will be released, with actual display space in all the big retailers. I still haven't seen a Playbook in a store. And I keep hearing about all these hundreds of Android tablets, but where are they?

Okay, so today I found where some of the tablets have been hiding: Staples. And they don't even sell iPads there. Weak.

Well that didn't take long. I think the Ipad is still pretty sweet. I bought my wife the original and ended up sending it back because it was a giant Ipod touch and we already have one. I have a friend that uses the original as a remote for his Apple Tv...yeah, he's that guy :)

I hear the iWorks suite works very well on the iPad.

Isn't that just for viewing and editing, much like Playbook's app? To replace a laptop or desktop, it's gotta do more.

On the Apple website, it says you can create, not just view and edit.

I got an iPad 2 a few weeks ago and for the most part it has replaced my computer. I bought the apple ipad dock with keyboard for it, and before I resigned two weeks ago, had ditched my desktop in favor of it.

the iWorks suite does everything on the ipad, I can make key note presentations and present them with the ipad as my remote with it hooked via wifi to our media center in back which connects to the projector. I can make full word documents on pages and i havent had much use for keynote yet but it has full functionality

I run my blog primarily on my iPad, the only thing im still searching for is something to use to replace photoshop for the images at the top of posts. There are a few great apps for that but none of them have the full functionality I need to do layers + text that isnt handdrawn, and unless I get a stylus, my handwriting on the ipad is too big so far.

i had the same reservations about it being a giant ipod touch, but for everything I need to do it is sufficient. Plus some of the apps on there blow away any other experience. My kindle app is most likely my most used app, and it replaced the nook I previously had.

I wouldn't even consider a tablet until the Windows 8 tablets start rolling out. Competition should be amped up considerably then if Microsoft tries to make a legit stab in the tablet market. Plus the good ones cost so dang much, it would have to be a laptop replacement, and nothing on the market can do anything close to that yet for me since I have at least three essential programs that will run on nothing but a desktop OS - InDesign, Photoshop (the iOS one isn't much better than MS Paint), and Start-O-Matic (only runs on Windows). For me, they are all tweener devices that are good to take for leisurely traveling and not capable of replacing a laptop unless all you really do is browse the internet, watch movies, listen to music, and play app store games.

I have family on the HP design team in Fort Collins and HP has a dwindling campus around the corner form my house (RIP Compaq). But i have to tell you that I just don't see this 'Me Too' standing out in an increasingly crowded tablet landscape. There has to be true innovation or significant price savings before anyone will knock the iPad off its throne. We've seen some innovation but the price points have held them back (I'm talking toward you, Motorola).

Frankly I have been disappointing in the tablets that I have seen arrive on the market thus far. I'm cool with a WiFi-only device but USB would be nice (I'm looking at you, Cupertino).

My wife wants an iPad 2 because her friends from Jr. League & Church have them and she thinks their "cute".

The two things mentioned in the video that should be available on nearly all mobile devices this time next year are magnetic recharging and near-field communications (NFC). Practically everything in the pipeline from every EOM has them integrated. Frankly I am most disappointed that all of the innovation that is coming is taking so long. Frankly price points are one of the biggest slowdowns. As long as Apple keeps the iPads competitive they will maintain the dominant lead.

has anybody noticed this horrible trend of using an ipad as your main camera? You'll be sitting in your daughter's recital or something and the person in front of you his holding up a giant video screen in front of your face trying to take pictures. It's one of those things that should be an obvious tablet etiquette faux pas.

Plus the camera on the ipad and the ipod touch sucks immensely. Why anyone would use it as their main camera to begin with is idiotic.
