Looking forward to Captain America. I haven't seen a movie in the theatre in two years though. No time and my son isn't quite old enough for the theatre yet.

Saw Hanna the other day. It was enjoyable, but nothing really original about it, with a couple strange, awkward scenes thrown in.

Yeah, it's just you.

I am so scared of this movie. I'm a huge Pixar fan and they have not had 1 movie that was not an A+ yet (although most people seem to think Cars was Pixar's worst movie, it was still very good). But I just don't see how this movie will be able to do it. I really want it to be good but from everything I've seen, I think it's gonna be there first let down.

Yeah, but what did you base it on? The previews are just coming out. It appears it's all about the tow-truck saying really unfunny lines and acting stupid. Nothing seems right about it. My kids seem to like everything, but I hope they see through this one and how dumb it looks.

the teaser trailer came out a long time ago and revealed the "spy" aspect of it.

There was news sometime last year that someone was going to try and make an epic about David. Now, this putz wants to tackle Noah's Ark. Sorry, I just really dislike Aronofsky.

http://screenrant.com/darren-aronofsky- ... dy-118928/
When Darren Aronofsky announced that he’d be turning one of his “hard to make” screenplays into a comic book, a lot of people immediately began speculating that he could be referring to his Batman origin story script. However, it turns out the filmmaker was actually referring to Noah, his retelling of the famous Biblical tale about (essentially) the end of the world.

Now that Black Swan has proven that an Aronofsky film can actually be a big hit at the box office, the director is looking to realize his version of the Noah story as a big-budgeted film production.

Deadline says that New Regency is already considering a role as co-financier of Noah, which is being envisioned as a $130 million undertaking that’ll feature Aronofsky at the helm – working from his original script, which is currently being revised by Oscar-nominee John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator). If things work out, this could very well fill the hole left in Aronofsky’s work schedule after he stepped down as director of The Wolverine.

Part of the reason Noah is such a difficult sell has to do with Aronofsky’s approach – namely, to retell the tale of Noah and his Ark in a manner that remains true to the tone and nature of the original Bible story. However, therein lies the problem, as Aronofsky has pointed out before:
“[Noah was the] first environmentalist. [The] first person to plant vineyards, drink wine and get drunk. I was stunned going back and realizing how dirty some of those [Bible] stories are. They’re not PG in any way. They’re all about sleeping with your brother’s sister who gives you a child who you don’t know. That kind of stuff got censored out of our religious upbringing.”
Aronofsky has also cited the theme of “environmental apocalypse” in the story of Noah as one that was particularly attractive to him. When you also consider that in combination with the general content (tests of faith, loss of human life) and the overall gloomy atmosphere of the tale, it become a bit more obvious why Aronofsky is so taken with this particular Bible story.

Noah still reads as being a pretty risky proposition for studios – between its high cost, adults-only content and potential to attract a healthy amount of controversy – so it’s not yet guaranteed to become a reality. Even if things don’t work out for the Noah film, Aronofsky fans will at least get to see the project brought to life in a non-compromised fashion in comic book form.

I sometimes do attendance checks at the movie theater in Wheelersburg (Sly will be shocked the place is still open, as am I). Used to be able to watch the movie at least once, but the new owners didn't let me sit through X-Men: First Class (which irritated me).

I got to see the trailer for the new Planet of the Apes reboot (or is that re-reboot?) and it looked decent. I may not see it in the theater, but I may check it out once it's on DVD/Netflix. And my wife was even interested in the new Transformers movie when she saw the trailer.

The Bellars don't own the cinema anymore? Time marches on.

I had planned to take my kids to Cars 2 for opening weekend. But it looks like I'll finally be moving.

I liked Hanna. They could have done a little more character background stuff but overall I liked it. Sort of a primer IMO for The Hunger Games. Gettting audiences used to an <18 heroine.

Havent seen too many other movies, but am hoping to catch up on vacation. Now that I taught my wife how to "movie hop", she is all excited!!
Thor, Capt A, and Green Lantern have a HUGE cheese potential
Super 8 looks like it is living up to its billing
Cowboys and Aliens is growing on me
Apollo looks great.
Hangover 2 and Bad Teacher are going to be guilty pleasures!!
Transformers 3 could be interesting, hopefully better the #2
Atlas Shrugged was gone so fast didn't get a chance to catch it. It sort of got panned in the reviews, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that you know there will be no conclusion. (Sort of like the "new" Star Wars. You ALWAYS knew there would be more. But then again, they weren't as good either!)
Noah? That could be interesting. Although, I think once Richard Gere played King David, it is all done! Who would play Noah? This would sort of be like the biblical version of Titantic. You already know how it ends!
Cars 2 will be somethin I watch with my wife so we can theater hop to another one LOL

Chrisian Bale is reportedly been targeted to play Noah.

I think Captain American looks like it'll be good. I saw Super 8 yesterday. It's not original or unpredictable, but even so it's really good. Makes you miss your childhood, and sad that kids can't really grow up like that anymore. But like everyone else has said, it's basically E.T. and The Goonies. Very enjoyable movie.

alright, I think I'm starting to feel better about Cars 2.

Lasseter makes it sound pretty well thought out in this article and not just a bunch of Larry the Cable Guy humor that the commercials are showing:

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011/06/ ... a-tune-up/

Also, reviews are starting to roll in on rottentomatoes and it's only had 1 bad one, although there is only 7 or 8 total there so far. So I'm not expecting Toy Story 3, but people are saying it's better than the first Cars, and I seem to be one of the few who liked that movie.

From that Lasseter interview:
We revamped the whole story, the whole bad-guy arc. To me, there always needs to be a logic to our movies. No matter what subject matter it is, they have to be logical for the world we’re creating. I kept thinking about, “OK. A spy movie in the world where cars are alive. What would be a really good kind of über bad guy? Who is an über bad guy?” I kept going to big oil. This is before what happened in the Gulf of Mexico.

Why isn’t alternative fuel more… Why isn’t everybody jumping on that bandwagon? It makes so much sense: Electricity, solar, whatever. There’s ethanol. There’s all this stuff you could be doing. And so I thought, well, that could be really cool in that you could have big oil versus alternative fuel. That’s when we kind of crafted the bad guy’s story.

The greatest bad guys, you understand where they’re coming from. They believe they’re doing the right thing. Sometimes it’s for greed, sometimes it’s for other reasons, but they are what they call the center of good. They always believe they’re doing the right thing.
Typical.

Staying on the Pixar train, here's their next project:

Image

http://collider.com/brave-movie-image-2/98505/
Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).

Hey, an original concept! And, of course, it comes in the form of science fiction. That seems to be the only movie genre with any grain of originality.

The wife and I saw Moneyball yesterday and both thought it was really good. They took a few liberties with the timeline of events, but overall I think it was a pretty accurate portrayal. I'd definitely recommend it. 4/5

So, will Spielberg be the first director to get an animal nominated for an Oscar? I mean, come on, just look at those eyes.
