Pembroke??? Why in the world are they going to move up to DI? Unless the Big South is hurting for football members, I say no way.

Looks like the Big South HAS been talking to Charlotte:
- I'm told there's nothing to the idea that Charlotte has turned down an offer to join the Colonial Athletic Association as a full member. That doesn't mean there haven't been discussions (there have) or that such an offer might not be forthcoming (it could). But Charlotte is only interested in finding a temporary spot for its football program and wants to keep the rest of its sports in the Atlantic 10. Of the three leagues Charlotte has been talking to, it doesn't appear the CAA or the Southern Conference would be interested in such an arrangement. The Big South might be, however (Stony Brook is a football-only, temporary member now).
But things are in flux in the CAA, with UMass and Rhode Island (football-only members) leaving and Villanova (another football-only school) considering a move to the Big East. When the dust settles, maybe the CAA would consider Charlotte as a football-only member.

Judy Rose said this morning that the 49ers won't be offered a football-only associate membership by either the Southern Conference or Big South.

Rose said she talked with commissioners of both leagues -- the SoCon's John Iamarino and the Big South's Kyle Kallander -- earlier this week.
Seriously? Who does KK think we are? the CAA? the SOCON? Did he even ask the schools' AD's and Presidents? We'd love to have UNCC in the conference even as an affiliate. We are in NO position to demand their bball team to move as well. We need an extra conference member for scheduling purposes alone. That would be the end of our D2 playing days.

Manson, from where I sit, it looks like a WIN, WIN situation for the Big South. I don't know what KK is thinking by turning them down in his own back yard. They've even got a decent Quiz Bowl team who could finally give us some competition.

+1

Bad move by KK.

Seriously, what could be KK's reasoning here? He doesn't want the BSC to be a stepping stone on the way of UNCC's climb to DIA?

KK has never made any sense... Why should he? No school holds him accountable to any standards or goals. He cares about having a job and attracting very little attention to his participating schools. We might win the Sassar Cup every year and get autobids in every sport, but we will never grow into a real powerhouse like Jerry envisioned until we get out of the Little South.

We get a better conference, we get even better players and we start beating even bigger schools and have even BIGGER goals.

It appears that the Charlotte 49ers will play football as an independent, at least for the foreseeable future.

Athletics director Judy Rose said Thursday that the Colonial Athletic Association -- which the 49ers had hoped to join as a football-only member when they begin playing in 2013 -- would only consider accepting Charlotte in all sports.

The CAA was one of three Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) leagues the 49ers had been in contact with. In June, the Southern Conference and Big South both said they wouldn't extend invitations for the 49ers to join.
