I do not think that is racist at all and this should not be a taboo topic. There is a growing number of black republicans though still a very small number, but really it is all about political strategy. Just like when the GOP put Sarah Palin on the ticket to seek the women vote. There will always be a racism and quite frankly i do not see a black person winning the presidency the next term because of Obama. There are still too many good ol' boys who think blacks cannot get the job done in leadership positions. I still wish JC Watts was still involved in politics.

The other thing to consider is the fact that the vast majority (as somewhat noted by bigsmooth) of black voters tend to swing Democratic. I come from a family that is one of those small number of Black Republicans (although my youngest sister voted for Obama in 2008) and with the vast majority of those Democratic voters on a lot of your social entitlement rolls, any black person running as a Republican who preaches even one whiff of something that could take that away isnt going to do very well in that demographic.

5yrplan wrote:I have to admit I did throw up Cain to win because he was black, the only reason for this is to win the black vote which is what many people are thinking. I personally do not know that much about Cain and I have been researching to find out a little more. I will admit I threw his name out because he is black. I am not trying to be racist by no means at all, but to many republicans the idea of having a black candidate paints the impression that there is a possibility to win the the Presidency, which is the dumbest idea in the world but it has been spoken. What it should come down to is not the skin color of a man but what he knows and what he can do, so on that note I would like to apologize for throwing Cain's name up there.
Allen West on the other hand, I believe, represents the true meaning of an American. He has the experience, he knows the constitution, he understands foreign policy, and he is willing to stand up and fight for what he believes. That is why I back West even though he is not running.
Thank you for your honesty. You have your right to like who you want. It's just a pattern I tend to find. Sort of like a lot of Republicans liked Colen Powell even though he's left of most Democrats.

In my opinion, I don't think Cain would get anymore votes than McCain would have. The reason why, is unfortunately, a lot of minorities are dependent on Democrats for "goodies" from the government. Cain would easily be viewed as "selling out his race." Look at the 2006 Senate Race from Maryland where Michael Steele ran for Senator. In large minority communities, he won the same amount of the vote that George Bush did for President in 2004.

I like how Covert links everything... even simple words. lol.

By the way, I really don't care how much money he owed at one point. I'm not sure what that has to do with his politics.

It has nothing to do with his politics. I just wanted to throw out the word blingrich.

An appeal to evangelicals
The Golden Rule Applied to National Leadership

I wrote this as a plea to my Christian brothers and sisters. Please read it with an open heart, pray and share it far and wide. Please feel free to comment or ask questions.

Every four years, pundits, pollsters and Christians seek out the presidential candidate to whom "evangelical Christians" will flock. In 2000, it was George W. Bush. His personal testimony of faith, solid pro-life stance and campaign based on personal responsibility convinced conservative Christian voters that he was one of us. In 2008, former Arkansas Governor and Baptist Pastor Mike Huckabee, joined on the campaign trail by a born again Chuck Norris, was the natural choice. Huckabee, of course, didn't win the nomination. John McCain, the nominee, firmed up his formerly weak pro-life position and brought Sarah Palin in to smooth over his own less than conservative credentials. Many of us felt that supporting McCain/Palin in the final election was our only choice. Prominent christian leaders, whom we trust, endorsed these candidates. And, many christians, including our pastors, flocked to them as the right choice. But, as a nation are we fulfilling Christ's Greatest Commandment at the voting booth?

With Mitch Daniels out of the picture, is anyone else sensing the GOP starting to feel a bit desperate? IMHO the field looks about as ugly as anyone could imagine. But just like when you are trying to sell a house (incidentally someone can buy mine anytime), you'll only need one buyer/candidate. But the clock is ticking.

I am not a huge fan of Rick Perry, but I now expect him to start being pushed hard as an outsider candidate by social conservatives.

I loved watching Fox and Friends this morning at 6AM before work. They had these democratic pundits on saying "you know we really think that Jeb Bush, he'd be the strongest candidate." I rolled out of my chair laughing. To think that, one, must conservatives have had enough of Bush already, and two, these Democrat pundits are actually going to tell us who will give Obama the best run.

What a joke. But I guess they really think we're that stupid.

We'll have our candidate. Hold your fire. Don't pick one yet.

Pawlenty is a master communicator. In fact, we use his stellar news conference after the I-35 bridge collapse in trainings. The only questions surrounding him are in regard to his political agenda.

Id vote for Pawlenty, but he has some major explaining to do on such things as his environmental policies.

I know he's stated "he got it wrong". I admire that a politician would admit that. But we'll see.

Yeah, us Ron Paul supporters are totally nuts in thinking he's the only one who can actually bring our country back to the constitution.

Voted for him in the '07 primary, will do again this year. Long shot obviously, but is that all that matters? There is really no one else in the field who has stuck with his principals like Paul has over 25 years, while seemingly every other candidate has a skeleton in his closet (Romneycare, Pawlenty's Climate Change, Gingrichs Past, etc). I think the reason why the field isn't that strong is because most of the candidates are perceived at this point to be just politicians, not leaders or visionaries in bringing this country back to our founding fathers limited government.

I don't usually jump into these things, but Ron Paul is not just some crazy uncle to be discredited from the get-go.
