The Arlington Baptist College announced a number of new initiatives at the annual World Baptist Fellowship meeting at the Texas campus today.

Upon the recommendation of President D.L. Moody, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to call Dr. Ergun Caner as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Along with his administrative duties, Caner will also teach Theology, Church History and Apologetics.

That had me thinking too...you think he may be related to the great Evangelist and namesake of the Moody Church and Moody Bible Institute?

BYD, my friends don't constantly harp on LU's few "embarrassments" like yours. Are you sure you are hanging with the right crowd? Based on your past comments here, I bet your friends are the type who constantly put LU down because they are envious -- probably because they themselves are not exactly among life's "winners" and/or they have bought into the establishment's definition of what a university should or shouldn't do. You would enjoy life much more if you stopped trying to be accepted by these type of people.

sounds like he took the first opportunity he could to leave. kjv only seems like the exact opposite from his typical crowd.
from blonde goatees and preaching in ac/dc shirts to a kjv only school. big shift.

How about a little Christian love and forgiveness for that "moonie", BYD? Judge not, lest ye be judged. I don't think it was Sun Myung Moon who said that. I will pray that you are able to get over your bitterness and judgmental attitude.

im not a fan of godwin either, but does every thread have to become about him? this is about caner, and i cannot see a possible connection to godwin other then the fact that they are the 2 least liked people on the mountain.

Caner was fired from leading the seminary. Losing him as a professor and resource is something that I'm not happy about at all. I would've loved for him to continue to teach because he's ridiculously smart and loves students.

Jon's right. I was coming out of class on a Tuesday night and decided to sit in for a bit when I saw that he was teaching...1500 was a full house for class that night. Even despite what happened last year, he obviously was still thought highly of enough as a teacher of theology and church history that students filled up the class. Does that change what happened? certainly not...but Im sure that Caner if you rated all the professors would still be a top 5-top 10 on the list. I had him for both theology and church history...the man is amazing at teaching about those areas and opening up the word of God. Im also sure ABC was aware of the circumstances behind his losing his post at the seminary...and I dont know what was said in the discussions between them (nor do I care to), but whatever it was, they decided that he was the man they wanted for that position.

I'm not so sure about that statement. I definitely know more students who liked Caner then disliked him. I was actually signed up to be in one of his classes for next year. Say what you want about his factual inaccuracies in his testimony, Caner was an intelligent man. To be honest, I'm kind of sad that the incoming students won't be able to hear him speak at LU on a regularly basis.
O well, I hope he enjoys his new job and does well at it.

i used to like him too, until i realized he said next to nothing of value in wendesday night campus church. dude sure was hilarious though absolutely entertaining. he could have a real career as a stand up comedian if he wanted it, ending each show with him tazing himself.

while he was here, we loved him because he was hilarious. i would have loved to take church history with him, as a hilarious blow-off class. from everything i heard, there was not an easier proffesor at liberty.

I'll agree with you on campus church. I didn't care for him as pastor.

However, I'll disagree. I took him for church history and learned more in that class than just about any other during my time at Liberty. Granted, it was before his "celebrity" and the class size was about 15-20 but was still a great class.
