I think this is just SO Amazing and Wonderful!
Way to go Men!!!
:clapping
I look forward to following their progress!

"Following their first-ever Big South Championship three weeks ago, No. 27 Liberty will be traveling to Tucson, Ariz., to participate in the Arizona Regional of the 2011 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, May 19-21.

The Flames will be the No. 5 seed at the 14-team Arizona Regional, which will be contested at the Omni Tucson National Resort. The par-72, 7,094-yard trek has hosted 30 PGA Tour events and was the long-time home of the Tucson Open and the Chrysler Classic of Tucson."

This is a great article... Check it out!!

Article by our own scribe on the Golf team
When Preston Dembowiak was a freshman during the 2007-08 season, he got a pretty good idea of just how far Liberty had to climb to become a player in the Big South Conference golf scene. While the Flames were sputtering to a sixth-place finish at the conference championships in the spring with a 62-over par three-round total, Coastal Carolina was making an impact on the national stage...The Flames, which won the Big South tournament last month to end Coastal’s seven-year run, have come a long way since Dembowiak was a freshman. Last month, on the same course in which the Flames — who open NCAA regional play Thursday in Tucson, Ariz. — shot a three-round score of 926 in ’07-08, Liberty carded an 8-under par 856, an improvement of 70 strokes.

CCU's board said they got an at-large bid to the VaTech regional. Can't figure that one out other than program hx/reputation. They certainly were below form this year (for them)

So how does this golf tourney work? I read something about the top 5 team finishers in Arizona this weekend move on? Is that true? What about individual players? How many more "rounds" are there (i.e. Regionals, Nationals, etc.)?
#348164
From what Ive read, its the top 5 teams in each region plus the top individual from a non-qualifying team so you will have 6 other individuals qualify if Im remembering that correctly

That sounds about right, BJ, though I'm not completely sure. Flames are tied for second with Washington right now at -4, two strokes behind San Diego State. Dembowiak shot a 67, and Marinell posted an impressive 72 after double-bogeying two of the first three holes. Karlsson still has one hole left.

yeah, the boys are gonna have to do some major work to get back in the hunt but anything is possible.they can certinaly make up seven shots in a team competition. Other than Loyola-Maryland, LU had the worst score of the day. Chase Marinell was best for LU with an even par 71, but Preston Dembowiak shot a 6 over 77. Lets hope for a rebound tomorrow1

The guys struggled and finished +8 which landed the Flames in 10th place out of 14 teams. Individually the guys ended up as follows:

Chase Marinell- +1
Andrew Colvin- +1
Preston Dembowiak- +3
Robert Karlsson- +8
Max Mc Kay- +10

The guys had a great season with top three finishes in 10 of 12 tournaments, and the teams first Big South Championship. Congrats to Coach Thomas and the guys.
