If it floats your boat, go for it. But I know what you're talking about, hence why I said it was cool when I was 14.

Anyone ever hear of While Heave Wept? Found out a guy I know is in the band. Hadn't heard of them till then. I really liked the cuts Wander The Void, Soulsadness, Vessel and Empire of the Forlorn.

ROOSTER - I can go toe to toe with you on CCM from the 80's!! I did find this site and it brought back a lot of memories not to mention music out of print! Too bad there wasn't any free Resurrection Band LOL

Glenn Kaiser never got the recognition he deserved. But I admit I wasn't crazy about Wendy's vocals most of the time.

I agree 100%. Would love to see him come to preach at Liberty one time. I have a sneaking suspicion he would make the Vines Center rumble. And not with just his music!

BJWilliams wrote:You gotta know when to listen. Its not all Spirit FM sounding music like youd think. Yeah they arent playing MXPX, POD and a lot of the harder stuff but they do play good music (and Im not just saying that as someone who used to work there). I know when postie and his brother were doing the music it trended more toward a lot of rock (and especially independent rock), but it wasnt all they played because the listenership was more than that. Anyway if you like harder sounding stuff listen on Saturday nights from 10 PM-1 AM (I think)
90.9 is pretty unlistenable these days...It pains me to say that, but its true...

by the way it didn't trend more towards rock, it trended towards more what was popular with college aged students...there was some music added I hated, but people like it and most of the music wasn't heard anywhere else in lynchburg....now I listen from time to time and I feel like I am listening to Spirit FM part 2 which is not ok with me, but it is what it is...

I don't want to bury 90.9, because putting the music together is tougher then one would think...I was just very proud when I heard people say they liked 90.9 a lot more then they did a few years before I got there...but who knows, maybe the students are digging whats going on there now. If they are, then thats great

I admit that I used to actually listen to the Light when I was in town but the past year it really doesn't do much for me ... and I'm an Old Hag. Student radio has always gone through ebbs & flows dating back to when I was Music Director at WLBU (Bev Buffington was a beast to get past with just about anything).

As for Rez, 'Love Comes Down' was one of my faves back in the day. I loved Glenn's bluesy side and his willingness to walk the walk at Jesus People USA. He has to be getting up there in age. And for the record, there have never been enough bluesy artists in Christian music.

I tended to skew more toward the harder side of Phoenix's list. I used to host the Metal Meltdown show on Z100 in the Late '80s so I split my time between Yngwie Malmsteen, Dokken and WhiteCross.

Just reading this thread has me inspired to do some web searches for some of my old favorites.

I mean we do already have a 90.9 thread.

Anyways, everybody here knows what I think about it now.

Emery is pretty good, I think they've got a new album coming out (or just came out).

And it may not be "new", but there's always the Beatles. They never get old :D

What I've always loved about Emery is that they do such a good job intertwining melody with some hard rock. It's something that I really don't seem many bands do (Life In Your Way does a pretty good job, but not as good as Emery).

So when you found out he had your number, did you cut the telephone lines? When he asked for a reason, did you say you ain't got much time? Did you scope out your girlfriend whilst she was playing in traffic? We had this debate before, but he has the best rock/blues voice EVER!!
His vocals are spot on in:
Game Room
Broken Promises
Beyond the Gun
Tears In The Rain (The "Christian" Juke Box Hero)
In Change

and in a brief defense of Wendy, I DID like her vocals in:
Beggar in the Alleyway
Benny and Sue. Of course they were from the same album, so the producer may have something to do with that!

I got the other Ascend The Hill album (not the hymns one) and it's really, really good. They do some crazy creative stuff.

I haven't heard any new Coheed and Cambria since High School. When's the last time they put out a new CD?

Whenever there is a New music discussion I have to admit that I have not heard of 90-95% of the bands/artists people mention...

Don't make him made. Oh, please don't make him mad. You've been gone too long, you don't realize what you may have just started.

I really like some of their stuff, but their song-writing seems to be getting weaker, almost Foo Fighter-ish. And by that, I mean poor lyrics written mostly to be commercialized. But I guess that's where the money is.

Oh, and another band I just recenly got into after watching them live on Austin City Limits: Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue. Their new album is kinda weak, but when they perform live it's incredible.

I love Austin City Limits, bands/artists seem to perform their best when they play on there.

Good to see some Emery love on this board...A few of the guys in the band went to Winthrop at the same time I was there. Great guys and excellent musicians...

i agree. i find myself humming or singing a bunch of songs though throughout the day however, so the sound while simple and the lyrics are funny (grab your guns stuff ) its good stuff.

I'm always finding out awesome new stuff on WNRN (89.9 in 'Burg). They are out of Charlottesville. A couple of times a week on their "Acoustic Sunrise" show they have new acts, usually in town on tour for a concert, performing live. I've found some really good bands listening and even made a trip up to Charlottesville to see some of them live if I liked their sound enough. Of course the rest of the day they play your normal indie stuff, found a few good bands that way too.

And, if you stay up past 10PM, they have the "Boom Box", where they play uncensored rap, hip-hop and R&B, if you are into that kind of thing. You can thank me later 8)

Yes, I'm very familiar with wnrn, it's really the only non-talk station worth listening to in Lynchburg (except when Sweet Briar takes over in the evenings, then it gets pretty bad).
