Is it just me or are more and more "Liberty people" complaining about the admin recently? Nearly every day someone on facebook is upset with Liberty for one reason or another. Add to that all the debates we've had on here recently.

It's just you, I heard complaints on campus every day about this or that or something else.

I think most of the older posters (egad, I think I'm included in that group) aren't complaining too much, and a lot of the debates on here revolve around either wrestling or come from the new student posters who are still figuring it out (not that that's a bad thing, we enjoy healthy debate).

I'm not talking about petty complaints about parking or something like that. I'm talking statements like "I'm ashamed I ever went to LU' or "I will never send my kids there" or "Is Liberty still a christian college?"

Some people just find enjoyment in bellyaching. I've heard for a quarter century. I tried to avoid contact with said people whenever possible.

from the student perspective, the recent changes make it seem like liberty cares more about our money than our education.

@JCManson I've heard this from students, staff members, and alumni.

I find a statement like that ludicrous...Is Liberty still a Christian college...seriously? What are we supposed to be...a bunch of suit and skirt wearing milquetoasts who sing Victory In Jesus and 27 verses of Just As I Am every day? Yeah some of the changes are going to ruffle some feathers but that doesnt mean that we are moving away from our Christian roots...

milquetoasts- a very timid, unassertive, spineless person, especially one who is easily dominated or intimidated.

hey BEE-JAY....... :dontgetit

seriously though, anyone who made comments about LU not being a Christian College or whwtever nonsense was said is just upset, misinformed, or just plain crazy. I have never seen so much "bellyaching" from this younger generation. just crazy.

It's just one of the affects of Facebook/Twitter etc. You just hear a lot more stupid things because people have an outlet to say them.

QFT.

Honestly, I do hear that from students, but not often at all.

I saw on one alum's facebook who is a friend of mine that they were disappointed in the school over the fact that they wanted to move away from using LU. Thankfully someone set them straight on it though...I shook my head when I saw it initially

Liberty is a great school. Unfortunately, my/our generation is just a culture who will complain about anything. We are a "me" generation. When I was at Liberty everyone complained about something (even me). Suck it up and enjoy Liberty.

Whenever Liberty makes changes that require some employees to actually work for their pay, you will hear comments like, "All they care about is money", and the students parrot that same line that they hear from their professors. But, think about it. What does that really mean? LU is a non-profit so, if it makes more money, nobody gets rich. There is just more money available to fund Christian education (programs, missions, buildings, athletics, etc.) Sounds like a good thing to me!

People at liberty saying lu is in it for the money, not a christian college etc? Shocking! This happened all the time when I was still around. This is nothing new or ground breaking

The only valid complaint is PARKING!!! I think B and N should have match donated dollar for dollar for a new parking garage!! They could call it BORDERS PARKING GARAGE!!

Considering how few people would know that I doubt it hurts it.

I'm not one of those folks, but if anything LU's problem wouldn't be their interest in money. It would be growth. I could see them focused too much on that. But in my opinion they can't grow fast enough.

I apparently was not around for the branding change thread. I disagree with that change.

manson, where are you hearing this from. I think there's always been a good bit of that to an extent. A lot of the people that i associate with from Liberty seemed to do it quite a bit when we were there. Now that were 4 years out most of us only remember the good teams. Are these younger (current students) face to face convos your having or?

This is not new. People complained when I was in school too (96-01). I had simple answer for people. I said if you truly disagree with and don't like Liberty University please go somewhere where you will be happy. If you stay here and only complain you look like an idiot for staying at a place that you hate.

That usually did the trick. It is easy to complain. Philippians 2:14 anyone?

Sorry for complaining about the complainers. 8)

FWIW, most of what I heard from the alumni while I was on campus was about the dress code and the allowance of Christian rock and other forms of music.

Most of what I heard from faculty, none of whom are at Liberty anymore, was that we spent to much money on athletics.

Too much on athletics?

http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com//pdf5/94609.pdf

OSU/Texas up over 120 million today. Liberty at what? 20?

Now, OSU pays nothing into athletics as it is entirely self supported, but it wasn't in the first 40 years of it's existence.

Look at average SAT scores of incoming freshmen compared to athletic budgets - A lot of very average smart kids (1200-1400 SAT) want to go to big-time state schools and root for successful athletic teams. Until athletics is self supported......

Average OSU freshman SAT = 1240

BYD, you have stooped to spreading rumors now. None of Rev. Moon's "right hand men" have ever had anything to do with LU. Yes, RSG, a product of Pensacola Christian Schools and Bob Jones U, went to work for the Washington Times newspaper for a few years because of the newspaper's conservative leanings. Do you really think every reporter and administrator at the Washington Times has some connection with Rev. Moon because of the corporate ownership of the paper? Do you also think that employees of FOX News have close ties to Rupert Murdoch? Get real. If you seriously have heard someone complain about this, then you are hanging around the wrong people -- real left wing, Liberty haters. And, by the way, in case you haven't been paying attention to politics since the Moral Majority was disbanded in 1989, it is the liberals who are trying to use legislation to force their morals on the rest of us, not conservative Christians. Liberals try to legislate their view of marriage and force it on the rest of us. Liberals pass laws that require the rest of us to change our lifestyles because of their environmental views. Liberals passed sin taxes on tobacco. Liberals push social justice -- stealing from producing citizens to give to non-producing. (Jesus taught that Christians should do that voluntarily.) Conservatives at Liberty U just want government to protect, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and leave them alone. Students at LU want to help the poor and down-trodden. They don't want government to do it. I have been listening closely to Jr over the last 4 years and I have heard this message loud and clear. Big government liberals are the ones legislating morality now and it so humorous to me because 25 years ago, that was their main criticism of conservative Christians!
