I was looking forward to adding someone with the skill set he has but its not the end of the world for our receiving corp.

it's really funny that the picture they used of him for the first story shows him tackling a DB who picked off the pass. Guess they don't have a lot of pictures of him in action to choose from.

Well, if we are going to talk about hype, I would point out that Butler didn't get much done in "real games" last year either. Yeah, I get that it was USC, there was a new coach, blah, blah, blah. I'm just sayin.................

I would agree that Garner will probably not be our first or second receiver. That's because our 1 and 2 receivers are the players who now hold almost every single season and single game record in our program's history, and just may be the best tandom in FCS. In a Spring game where defense dominated, Ervin was the one player who really stood out on offense. I think we are entitled to get a little excited about that.

Butler is 6'4 who runs a 4.4 and a physical beast. Stayed at USC he wouldve been a back up to two potential 1st round picks.

edit on my phone: but if he was to come Rocco/Streeter could switch up the O and go with a 4/5 WR set like Texas Tech. No TE but we know how much he loves to run so no chance of that happening.

anyway he's not coming here so...

Garner played exceptional in some of our other games last year before he got hurt - off the top of my head the Robert Morris and Ball State games.

No shock there! I would have loved to have seen him in a Flames uniform but he is making a good decision either way. Good for him on getting exposure on biggest college football stage and getting a USC degree. Looking forward to watching him in Los Angeles this year is there is time.

bump.

watching the USC - Stanford OT game and was just wondering how his season was going. Stats thru 10/13/11
9 catches
97 yards
0 tds

maybe he should have gone to an FCS program

He's playing behind 2 or 3 probable future NFL WRs, which is why he considered transferring. Clearly, he made his decision based largely on non-football considerations, and good for him.
