Shaka is a brilliant coach with a bright future. With that said I just want to point out that this has been a building process with VCU. The past two coaches have laid the foundation for VCU to be where they are right now. Also, the Rams were a very talented team in the late 80's when Sunny Smith was at the helm but never really came through when they made the tourny. If Shaka does leave I would like to see Capel come back or Tubby Smith make his way back home to the Rams bench.

If Shaka, leaves VCU doesn't have to worry about a coach. They will have their pic of all the top assistant coaches in the country.

When was the last time a team from a BCS conference was one of the last 4 teams in and made a run to even the sweet 16? 2 Mid-Major programs have done it in the past 5 years – VCU and George Mason.

Mid-Majors should be getting a lot more at-large berths than teams from the BCS conferences. A 2nd or 3rd team from the CAA, Horizon, MVC, etc. is much more likely to make a run than the 6-11th teams from the BCS conferences.

All the BCS teams are WAY overrated. They schedule to inflate their records with all home games out of conference. Then if they go .500 in-conference they have a legit shot of making the field. This needs to change. BCS conference teams should be required to play true road games out of conference.

The ACC’s 12 teams played 26 true road games this year. That’s an average of 2.15 games per team. Duke played 0 true road games.

The Big East’s 16 teams played 26 true road games. That’s an average of 1.6 per team. Pitt, Notre Dame, Syracuse played 0 true road games. South Florida, Villanova and Rutgers were the only teams that played more than 2 true road games. They played 3 each. USF played 4. And lost all 4 to the likes of Cleveland State, Akron, UCF, FAU. The 11 teams that made the tourney played 15 true road games. Just over 1 per team.

Painter MAY go to Missouri and Stevens would be Purdue's top choice. IMO, it would not be wise for Stevens to leave the state of IN since that is where his roots are. Because of that he won't have to "Whore himself out" (his words) to the extent he would at other schools to get top flight players. He is one who 'coaches up players' which is why Butler suits him well. By staying in state, he already gets the benefit of the doubt and would have 1) the ability to get top flight in state (including IL) players 2) fans would be patient as he 'coached up' his other recruits.

Great job Manson...I hate how people see 5 or 6 losses in conference by Butler and VCU or George Mason or whoever and say that they are "bad losses" They simply don't watch those games to say that. Those Conference games are big dog fights. There are enough games on TV for the committees to do their homework. I'm gonna start my own network and only cover the mid majors like ESPN covers the majors. I'll bet there is an audience. Of course I'm kidding about actually starting it but that isn't a bad idea. Someone should do it.

shaka is NC State's first choice, but if that falls through they already have a coach who has verbally said he would be the next coach for the pack should shaka turn them down from the very valuable source i have. i personally think it's gregg marshall. do not look for capel to return to VCU either. their AD will pull their next coach from that assistant group (i cannot remember the name of it). the last two VCU coaches have come from that group.

NCSU wants to get a deal done because of the other openings out there like oklahoma and missouri. NCSU is really an average job IMO because not unless a coach wants a real challenge, why coach there? you will be behind UNC and Duke every year until K and ol' roy retire. all NCSU can hope for is to be a middle of the pack ACC team and go to the dance on a consistent basis......wonder if they remember herb sendek??. i think its gonna be marshall if shaka declines.
