rumor going around is that Clarke is transferring from Arky

HOT SPRINGS — Arkansas Coach John Pelphrey would not comment Saturday on a television report citing sources that sophomore guard Rotnei Clarke is “strongly considering transferring” from Arkansas.

Pelphrey declined comment to WholeHogSports.com Saturday afternoon in Hot Springs. Pelphrey was in attendance at the Class 4A state basketball championship at Summit Arena in Hot Springs.
KNWA, a television station in Fayetteville, reported Clarke was strongly considering a transfer from Arkansas on Saturday. No decision has been made, according to a source. Clarke is scheduled to speak with Pelphrey next week as part of a normal individual meeting scheduled at the end of every season.
Clarke was second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points this season. Clarke entered the postseason ninth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (42.7 percent).
Pelphrey is expected to speak to the media as part of a season-ending press conference next week.
if he does transfer , you think Layer might inquire interest? (since he's a very spiritual person)

Rotnei would be a good fit at LU. His parents moved to Fayetteville, AR so they could attend all of his games. IF this were to happen, it would be reasonable for Coach Layer to contact him.

As I've stated many times, I'm not a big fan of bringing in transfers with less than 3 years of eligibility. Clark would have 2, but if he is really a kid who would be an good overall fit at LU, I don't have a big problem with it. He certainly could give us some scoring punch.

Im glad your not in charge, we would never have one the BSC a few years back without a few solid transfers.

I mean, why get an Alex McLean when you can get a David Minaya, right?

I'm perfectly fine with two years left and transferring. It's just like getting a juco transfer. If they only have one year left then we have a problem.

Read the part in red. There's no way of knowing where our program would be right now if RD had recruited primarily HS players from day one. We probably would not have won in 04, but we also might not have had to go through the revolving door of basketball vagabonds and disappointing results that followed, and he might very well still be our coach. I have never said transfers shouldn't be recruited, just that they should be the exception rather than the rule.

For every Alex McLean there is a Rashad Robinson and an Eric Bigby. Minaya has been a disappointment, but at least he still has 2 more years to get it right if he stays around.

It's a little different than a juco transfer because you have to tie up a schollie for them while they sit out a year. I'm OK with it occasionally for a potential impact player who wants to come to LU because of what we are, not in spite of it.

Transfers are almost always on scholarship the year they sit. If you look at our roster last year, Minaya is listed, along with 11 other scholarship players and walkon James Spencer. We had 12 schollies last year, down 1 due to academic penalties. Do you think Brew paid his own way? :rofl Neither did TeeJay, and I'll guarantee you Jenkins was on scholarship at Murray State last year. They practice, work out, and do everything else the rest of the team does except play that year.

A lot of it also depends on the school and the situation. I probably shouldn't have said it like it's an every situation thing, but there have been numerous occasions where the player pays the year he sits out because of the scholarship situation. Also, you're kidding yourself if you don't think that schools can "find" financial aid for players in that situation.

Teejay Bannister worked out pretty well.

Really? He had some entertainment value and his assist numbers looked impressive, but we had a so-so year, and for that one year on the court, we tied up a scholorship for 2 years at a time we were short a schollie because of academics. We only had 7 usable players that season.

reported on radio that he's leaning to Gonzaga. :|

Weird choice considering his whole family goes to Arky. Sister players VBall, Girlfriend goes there, etc... plus the different theology. I thought Oral Roberts if anything.

...and at that point, Teejay was the best PG we'd had in a long, long time.

I certainly didn't say Bannister wasn't good. Just that bringing him here for a year did not move our program forward, and may in fact have set it back. Same with Brew.
